Official 2015 Penn Waitlist Discussion

People do get off the extended waitlist, not very many but it does happen. I think maybe six got off last year.

AlmondHigh- was it Wharton you were referring to?

Poeme - do you know if the @6# is for CAS or both Wharton and CAS?

Thanks.

@JenAn1 I looked through past years’ CC waitlist boards and there was no good news for any extended waitlist people for any college. So either UPenn didn’t accept any people off of the extended waitlist, or they accepted no CC people. :P

A pretty interesting link for you all. Maybe it will give a grasp of the “over-represented” and “under-represented” areas of the country. As in, coming from Tennessee I had a much better shot than an applicant from New Jersey.

[Penn Admissions: Incoming Class Profile](http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/profile/)

Rejection here as well. Still waiting on Columbia and Duke, but I think at this point it’s quite likely that I’ll be at Berkeley next year.

Thanks for the info. I wish that I lived in North Dakota instead of New Jersey :frowning: I’ve seen this before, and the discrepancy between the ED and Regular admissions rate always gets me. Being on the Extended Waitlist instead of just flat out rejected, with virtually no shot of admission from this Extended Waitlist, makes me realize that if only I had applied ED… Oh well. No use regretting things now.

Well trust me, most people in my town have pestered me with "Why are you going so far away just for a state school? (my guidance counselor actually) ", responses of "oh… that’s… err… nice. ", and of course all the Penn State stuff, every time I mention my college choice. I can only imagine how bad it is in ND.
Just for fun I’m going to start answering different top colleges to see the name recognition difference. :P

any news these days???

By this time in past years, there had already been a Daily Pennsylvanian article reporting preliminary yield and enrolled class stats, preliminary and projected waitlist acceptance numbers, etc. It’s kind of odd that no such article has appeared yet this year. It could be that the Admissions Office has decided to wait until it releases the official, final numbers in August or September.

Any idea how many of us are still hanging around and hoping??

It seems there’s 3 of us here on the extended waitlist, on this thread (your D, me, and bandgeek). So, considering how many people were on this thread before, and assuming the proportions are somewhat similar… I’m guessing the extended waitlist should be around the 100-200 ballpark? Awful odds, imo.

@AlmondHigh, you have given me another good reason why I never was fond of calculus and statistics. I’m depressed enough for all of us be it 3 or 100-200.

It’s not calculus or statistics, I just eyeballed it based on this thread :P

Total waitlisted people in this thread: 20-30 (too lazy to actually count -.-)
Total extended waitlisted people in this thread: 3, 2 if you consider that I only posted after i was put on the extended waitlist
Percentage of waitlsited people put on extended waitlist: ~10%

Total waitlisted people: 2400
Generally, in the past, 60-70% accept the waitlist offer, so that’s 1600
Number of people on extended waitlist: 10% of 1600 = 160

And since collegeconfidential people tend to be better with sending in additional materials, I just guesstimated 100-200. :P

Though statistics would have told me that this is not very reliable :P

[University's yield rate remains steady | The Daily Pennsylvanian](http://thedp.com/article/universitys-yield-rate-remains-steady)

here you guys go! cause I started this thread, just wanted to help you guys out.

Good luck to everyone still on the waitlist!
And good luck to everyone going to other, just as wonderful places.

Thanks, whatisthis… especially your wishes for good luck, and all the best and happiness for you as well.

Almond High, want to re-crunch the numbers??

Or based on our extended waitlist letter, just hang in there until next week??

It’s interesting that only 37 were accepted… we had four people on here, only one of whom posted before their acceptance. From the info on this thread, I would’ve guessed there be ~100 waitlist acceptances. Therefore, the sample on this board is incredibly non-representative of the overall waitlist pool; we’re a lot more proactive than the average waitlistee, it seems. So I’d guess there’s less than 100 people on the extended waitlist.

Also, they’ve enrolled 2,476 students for class of 2015… and there were only 2,416 students for class of 2014. ([Penn Admissions: Incoming Class Profile](http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/profile/)). Wow, just reject me already -.- LOL

Hi guys,

I got into the extended waitlist. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Im not really sure what the extended waitlist means, never heard of it before.

@konig, The extended wait list is the schools insurance policy is that IF for some reason any of the students who confirmed their plan to attend change their mind, the school has a pool of students to fill those seats.

Odds for the extended waitlist don’t seem that great… but to quote the Hunger Games (which is my fun read for the week) may the odds be ever in your favor!

Extended Waitlist at least makes me feel confident that if I decide I hate my school that I’m enrolled in and make plans to transfer, it will be easier for me to get in than another applicant who didn’t make the Extended Waitlist cut. I’m definitely not planning on transferring though unless the quality of life there sucks.
