Really hoping for my daughter that she gets in…applied single choice early action and got deferred…then put on waitlist. I keep telling her to fall in love with her choice, but Harvard has been her dream since I can remember and she’s worked soooooo hard, as I’m sure the rest of you on the waitlist have.

dtrent - my kid was also deferred and then waitlisted. Hope we both get good news.

Also deferred, then waitlisted. :(

My son also deferred then wait listed. I don’t have the heart to tell him I think Harvard is trying to tell him something…

detoidi - I had my D apply for FA, and she was given nothing at a competitive college, so after reading your comment, I called Harvard today to let them know “we won’t be needing FA” in case it makes a difference. They assured me that was not part of the conditions, and it won’t matter with regard to their waitlist. Sounds like you have as good as chance as everyone else.

good luck to all of the CC waitlist.

Guys, I’m not going to lie, but getting off and being accepted from the waitlist will be like winning the mega-millions lottery. It’s not going to happen for me, because I have never experienced good luck in my life :(

I should’ve applied early action but I didn’t know about all the requirements and steps on account of my parents knowing zero about college or anything and by the time I organized myself and had everything done I missed the deadline. I’m extremely glad I was waitlisted instead of rejected! Nothing left to do but pray and wait…anxiously wait…

Stonesn - I don’t know you but I’m sure that you’ve experienced much good luck in your life.

You were waitlisted at Harvard - right? That means you accomplished great things, learned great things, have potential to do great things.

How did that happen? Sure, lots of hard work. But how about great parenting or mentorship that gave you what it took to do all that? How about the genetics that gave you what it took to do all that? How about all the stuff that led up to that point?

Luck is an intersection - a crossroads of opportunity and preparation. You need to be at the right place prepared to take advantage of the opportunity you’re given. Seems like you were there.

So never say you’re not lucky - because you obviously are. You’ve hit that intersection at just the right moment. Maybe that intersection doesn’t lead to Harvard, but if you are willing to follow it, it leads to Success.

Grab you dream. Seize the moment. Make it yours.

@stanford 78: What an awesome post!

We can do this everyone! The odds, of course, are against us, but the odds were against us before March 29 too. We’re almost there! :)

^^ I second that!

I accepted a double major at UT-Austin, but Harvard would be amazing!

Just called. 25 will be off this year.

[Yielding to an invitation | Harvard Gazette](Yielding to an invitation – Harvard Gazette)

That means they will take about 30-35 students and priority will be US caucasian females.

Any reasons?

I applied regular and was waitlisted. At this point I just want to know. So now that they know how many are to be taken off the waitlist, is Harvard going to cut some kids who are not in that upper echelon or keep everyone waiting until late May/June? Best of luck to everyone in the column

^^They have hit the target for all groups based on the class profile from previous years and they are over matriculated for men and Asians, so only one group is left that they need to balance the class. Interest in humanities, and physical sciences or math, a plus, second group but with a small need will be US African American females.

Only about 25. Idk where ana got that info from

Last year they announced 10-15 and ended up getting 31.
