International Student…do you think i can get through…

still waiting…over 4 months now. Some days I feel confident. Others I feel low.

Sorry that it’s taking so long. My friend is having problems too(they wanted things he didn’t have.)

I’d suggest calling to make sure they have everything, but if you already have, the wait doesn’t mean so much, maybe they just want to surprise you! I suppose it’s silly, absurd, trivial, and pointless for them to do that. But of course, so is the whole admissions process!

Good luck!

Thanks man, or woman?

Yeah I actually called today. They have everything so now I’m just waiting. Only a matter of time until I get an answer.

Well I just seriously didn’t get in. Well there goes the rest of my school year. Probably ain’t even gunna try anymore. Im outta here. Dunno what the **** I’m gunna do now. Probably gunna end up at a stupid community college now. I dunno why I even tried the last few years. What a waste.

Comrade, don’t despair! There are other rolling admission schools still operating. I’m afraid I don’t have a list, but those at the parent’s forum might help out.

Furthermore, some schools have later deadlines than others. Perhaps it was an SAT score or Unweighted Grade Point Average that had you rejected, but there is possibility of going to a different school.

There are 12 state schools in New Jersey, and many more throughout the country, in addition to many affordable privates.

You need to act fast though, if you haven’t applied elsewhere! Quick, quick, quick!

You don’t seem to want to go to community college, and having attended(soon working) at one, I think it could exceed expectations. Most importantly, there are other options. You could go to another residential college and then transfer to Rutgers.

I don’t know your personal situation, but there is some hope!

And be wary of depression, it casts a very foul shadow on you. I know, having suffered it myself for years, it can cripple you from seeing anything but decay and hopelessness. It can well make you unable to see any chances for improvement in the future, and can well make you act accordingly. This is a very bad time for that, you need to be moving and quickly!

(And as a side note, if you do happen to have suicidal thoughts(and I don’t mean this as accusation, but there was a tinge of despair in your post that reminds me of myself) you should stop immediately, and talk to someone. If you are feeling at that point, I’d suggest suicide.org for a list of hotline numbers to call. Again, it’s not that I think you have these thoughts, but I prefer wrong intervention to the alternative. Rejection (however arbitrary) at this stage can hurt much worse than it should!)

Community college, while not always a bad destination, does not have to be your destination, if you don’t want it. I’d really suggest talking with someone about your situation.

And pardon the thousand assumptions I put into my post, but I’m trying to cover a worst case scenario. You seem too dedicated and intelligent to resign yourself unwillingly to any supposed fate.

lol I’m not gunna commit suicide nor have any suicidal thoughts. I’m probably just gunna sulk around for the next few days and get trashed.

edit-Other than that, I feel like there just isn’t a need to try anymore. What’s the point, other than my pride.

Just a touch wary. I think these are the days that you should be moving to find somewhere else to go.

And because I’m in perpetual fear of impulsive decisions, I’m just going to mention that drinking and drug use often worsens depression and can lead to suicides.

Not that I think you will, but from what I read I’m seeing a sense of futility radiating from you. Please remember that there are a hundred other options than the two you’ve set out for yourself(it’s what frightens me most about your situation, as I’ve mentioned. It’s extremely indicative of depression, which is the one thing you don’t need right now. Your options are wide open, don’t allow a single admissions officer(computer) decide your life.)

And sorry if I’m a touch heavy, I’m a contingency planner by nature, and a bit too empathetic. Just trying to keep things open.

Well, I’d argue the point would be to be happy. You don’t seem to relish the idea of going to a community college. As it stands you have other options. Perhaps you’ll decide that it is, for opportunities or money, or something else, better, but over all it should be you, and not aRutgers bureaucrat making that decision.

At least, that’s how I feel about it.

Eh I dunno. I thought I’d be in tears after this but I’m not. Just sitting here listening to music now. probably gunna be a long night. I’ll be fine. I’m no nut.

Meh, depression doesn’t make you a nut. I don’t know your situation, but some things you said frightened me, for some stated reasons and some I’d rather not discuss.

At any rate I’m glad you’re feeling better! Still, I think you should look into what options you have less.

I bet it’s well over 1.

Thanks. I’m gunna be around in my room for the night doing whatever since I can’t sleep. Good luck to anyone else.

Question: Has anyone that applied after the priority deadline heard back yet?

Er first, in my last post the word was not meant to be “less” but “left.”

A rather terrible mistype on my part!

To the above, I don’t know, I’m afraid.

I still have not heard yet. What do you guys think?

bobbythebrain: when did you send your application in? I sent my back in late October and didn’t get my acceptance until last night.

Perhaps you should hear from them in the next couple of weeks. They were on break for a while because of Christmas and New Years. So I wouldn’t worry. Give it some time, and if they don’t respond to you by the end of January, I would call them.

I applied very early in September. Congrats on your acceptance. Were your stats similar to mine?

I remember reading your stats somewhere. I had the same math SAT score as you, but a lower Critical reading score (530). But my GPA was a 3.9-something.

In terms of activities (i don’t know if they take it into account), but I’m in marching/concert/pit band, newspaper, yearbook, and do community service.

And I’m from Jersey, so I think that helped me out a lot.

And I take mostly honor courses and only 2 APs this year (Us History and Stats).

Yeah, that’s basically it.

Good luck though! I hope you hear back from Rutgers soon :)

3.9 is a smokin GPA. I think I could have done better, but playing football really took up a lot of my time.

My daughter finallly got in (big sigh of relief). I’ve been checking that status page every hour for the past 2 months and that never changing ‘in process’ state has been transfixed in my mind and causing me nightmares. Before I tucked in last night, I refreshed the page one more time and lo and behold it looked different for once. Anyway, my daughter does not have the best of credentials to give hope to others waiting 3.5 Weighted. 1890 SAT. Got accepted in Arts and Sciences/Brunswick and Mason Gross. Thank you to all the posters in this site as it has kept me sane thru the agonizing wait.
