**OFFICIAL** AP Chemistry 2014 Thread

@kickinintheback I believe hypnotoad’s data referred to the AP Bio exam, not AP Chem. However, your data is slightly reassuring to know that approximately 1 in 5 students got a 5 last year.

Alright, guys. Let’s not assume that 5% of the people will get 5’s just because AP Bio did that.

Yes, the test got redesigned, but we don’t know if CB will do the same for AP Chem.

If you want to check out last year’s curves, here you go: <a href=“2012 AP Exam Score Distributions”>2012 AP Exam Score Distributions;

Yeah… with the new Ap Bio test last year, Collegeboard gave 1200 college students the AP test and based the curve off of them and the opinions of the chief writers/readers of the test.

@MasterMaestro‌

I am! (I took AP Bio last year so I took the full brunt of the new curriculum for that as well… but with a crappy teacher and no Bozeman until the day before).

I took the AP Psychology test this afternoon. I’m also going to be taking Calculus BC, English Language, AP Government, AP Human Geography, AP US History, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics. :)

If they based the curve on college kids, then I think we’re fine. The college kids that take introductory courses don’t usually do better than the kids that take it in high school

@SgtGutter‌ What? I really don’t think that’s true. I took Psych and Chem today. Who else took Psych? Complete test of words, tbh.

@capitalamerica What grade are you in? Are you taking all those APs this year O.O?

@Hawkace I also took Psychology. It was fairly easy but I made a LOT of dumb mistakes. It’s always been a vocabulary test, though. :3

@MasterMaestro I’m actually a junior, but I self studied for four of those AP’s. I’m actually only in four AP classes (I’m in precalculus due to a series to unfortunate events). The other class that’s not an AP is a language.

did you know its harder to get a one than it is to get a five?

@capitalamerica‌ Same. By the time that the essays came down, I was brunt out by chem and psych. What do you think about the FRQ’s?

@SgtGutter‌ I guess it depends on what college you’re talking about… Everyone is saying the chemistry test is weird…but I think it’s EXACTLY like the Barron’s book and I bought the Barron’s book 1 day ago…Just looked at the problems and that’s all I did and it helped… It’s so dumb how people use different resources because not everyone knows which is the best or the teacher tells them to buy different review books…however I believe it was accessible to us all in a way

@capitalamerica‌ How do you manage that? My brother self-studied 5 years ago when he was in highschool… I could imagine self studying if you’re taking 2 as I am (I’m a sophomore), but how do you manage 4 APs with 4 AP classes?

I have a hard time believing college board will enjoy reporting the scores that people seem to have made (myself included) based off this thread. Hopefully they will have to adjust their pre-determined curve. If not, oh well! All we can do at this point is laugh it off, relax, and wait till July :smiley:

Did anyone else think timing was hard (sorry if this was addressed in the last ten pages of this thread) because I was only halfway done with question 5 on the FRQs when the proctor called ten minutes.

I was in panic mode half of the time because I had just finished the first frq and 45 minute had already gone by… So yeah the timing was awful

timing was bad indeed. i was on q5 and 10 min was called.

How does Collegeboard expect us to do FRQ 4, 5, 6 and 7 in 7 minutes each? Like seriously…

Just wondering. How do they base the curve if it is predetermined? Every year it is different but what makes it different?
It seems strange that college board would make a curve more lenient because they think the test they made seems more difficult than the previous year.

I heard that teachers have access to an AP practice exam for the new chem. Modified exam. That test also has a scoring worksheet in it. So, if any of you all have nice chem. Teachers, you could ask them whether they could get that practice exam and see how the curve for that exam is. It’s probably going to be around that for the real exam too… And the exam should be free – just look up “AP Chemistry 2014 Practice Exam” and you can find this on one of the collegeboard links… Tell me anything you find or tell us all rather!!!

so the curves are basically predetermined because of this
