Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

@Dorfdude8 sounds good. I’m praying that the titration curve wasn’t worth nearly as much as the others, I definitely had issues drawing it

@Dorfdude8: I don’t think it’s a proper explanation, but I first defined hydrogen bonding and stated that there were more hydrogen bonds in the C2H5OH than in the C2H4. And then I said that since there were more in that, the bonds would be more difficult to break(?) or something like that. I mentioned that C2H5OH was polar, but I didn’t link that to the reason as to why it remained and C2H4 passed as a gas.
@polarknut: Lol I had issues with that whole problem xD

@Mochis1 ok since you didn’t mention why ethene passed gas (LOL) you probably got docked a point cuz you didn’t state what IMF that ethene was or state that it was nonpolar and therefore would not dissolve in a polar substance. I’m not sure. Once again, really dependent on whether you get a cranky ass old man or a sweet lady for you grader.

@Dorfdude8: (I thought it would be childish to laugh at what I typed but good thing you got it LOL) Alright, that’s what I thought since I didn’t fully elaborate the reasoning between the strength of the IMFs and all that. I’m praying for a more lenient grader :'D

Here’s what we do. We hire some random adult, plant him/her into the AP grading area, have him/her find our numbers, and grade us as full scores XD

That sounds wonderful xD
Oprah: “You get a 5! You get a 5! EVERYBODY GETS A 5!”

Barney: "I give a 5 to you, you give a 5 to me. We all get 5’s and get college creds WHEE with some proud parents and less money to spend, a good education is around the bend :]

DW y’alls will do amazing

Wasn’t the bond angle question referring to oxygen as the central atom?

So I drew the dot and cross structure instead of the only dots one for the lewis structure. Do I lose any points?

i heard you HAVE to draw dots and not lines or else you lose points

Probably similar to last years. The cutoff was a 58 last year.

Idk why you would have used lines, the one they presented next to it had only dots.

Hello!

I was wondering what the minimum percentage was last year in order to get a 4 on the AP Chem test.
Also, what do you think the curve will be for the 2015 test? higher or lower than 2014?

Thanks

I didn’t even see 2F :((

It’s pretty universal that a line represents a bonded electron pair. The question asked to draw in electron pairs, which are essentially what lines represent. You still needed to put the unshared pair of electrons on oxygen, however

Hi everyone, you all are hardworking students. I hope you will get good grades and enjoy some time off (relaxing). My D just took AP chem and I can’t wait for the result. Do you guys know exactly when we will know? Thanks so much

Depending on where you live, 7/6-7/10

For number 2, when finding the delta G at 298, did you also actually have to find K? I just said that since delta G was greater than 0, it was not thermodynamically favorable thus K < 1. Does that work too?

@Ninjadu I did the same. I think they should take it because they only asked for a delta G calculation so if you understand the relationship between G and Equilibrium you should be fine.
