Official AP Chemistry Thread (2014-2015)

right. i used the wrong number oops. this demonstrates my fabulous math skills on the chem exam :smiley:

@Messi4lyfe To my knowledge, there have been no official statements released regarding the curve this year. I doubt we will have any idea until later in the summer. Trevor Packer, the head of AP testing (I think) usually tweets about the score distributions, and last year I think tweeted on June 13th about the % of test takers receiving certain scores. No word on the curve however.

Lol I think we should be scared, a few people (like that guy who posted the solutions, names is lik adrian or something) said that the FR was too easy or was not “AP level”. Cutoff’s definitely >72 but might be higher by more than we hoped for.

@Messi4lyfe just wanted to say I love the name. Messi had a SICK goal yesterday!

@ClassicalCollege Oh. thanks

@pillowspillows it will always be easy for some people. I don’t think it will make a huge difference.

If I remember correctly, it was 72%, not 72 points.

@alldaboston I know lol. Two sick goals to be exact

@zach1198 They weren’t students though, they were like teachers… but I really hope you’re right

@pillowspillows Hopefully the curve won’t be too bad. I really need to get a 4 at least, or I’ll be retaking this in college :-/

When writing equations, do the AP graders mark off points if:

  1. Physical states of matter in reactions is wrong but equation is right (s, aq, l, g)
  2. Equation is in equilibrium vs not in equilibrium

Shit… I think I forgot the reverse arrows… ffs.

i dont think i had a 2e or 2f, so will i just be graded out of 43 points instead of 46 (2e and 2f are worth 3 points combined)? I heard some other ppl had this issue. How did you guys respond?

@Messi4lyfe I had the same issue as you. From what I heard college board will make two curves, one for the people that had it and one for the ones who didn’t. Im not sure how the curve will look like.

I wonder if they will release an average of the separate curves hmmm…

I’m sure the curve will stay in the 70’s… which is too bad :frowning:

how did people learn about the curve for last year? What makes you sure that the curve was 72% last year? BTW i found this website http://www.totalregistration.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=494&Itemid=118 and it says in 2014 due to lack of time they discounted pts needed for frqs therefore lowering the score needed for a 5…this year though they added 15 minutes to the test so this is no longer an issue which means we need more pts for 5

I heard that this years curve was 75%, but im not sure. Is that true?[/quote
No. The score conversions have not been finalized.

@CanisMajor

Well your overall percentage is based on both MC and FRQ, so just knowing your FRQ score will not determine your final score for sure. So I think the statistic of a 31/46 on FRQ for a 5 is a rough estimate because the total percentage is based on MC also.

My AP Chemistry teacher received statistics that the curve last year for a 5 was a 72%. Also, refer to: http://www.adriandingleschemistrypages.com/ap/the-final-ending-ap-chemistry-scores-2014/

I’m sure we will all be okay guys. They look at EVERYONE’S scores in general at the very end and determine the best course of action from there, and that’s when they decide how many points needed for FRQ based on how people are doing, and the average scores on MC.

That’s why there is no predicting curves because it depends on the performance of the students and what college board is expecting.

WHAT WAS THE CUTOFF FOR A 4? I’m guessing its at around a 58%?
