***Official AP English Literature Discussion***

Yay, I only know one other person myself, but I’m willing to bet that there are people out there who willingly used “Crime and Punishment” after reading the entire prompt…so maybe my idea wasn’t so far fetched after all. The only thing that might knock me down is that a bildungsroman usually chronicles a character’s development from youth to maturity, and while Raskolnikov isn’t exactly youthful himself, he isn’t that old either (he was a university student, so I’m thinking 19-22). It’s a stretch to call him “young” by any means, but hopefully they’ll accept it.

I had a thought yesterday… I didn’t do it, and neither did anyone I know, but do you think “Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team, A Dream” by HG Bissinger would have worked for the third prompt.

Part of me thinks no, because it is about, well, football.

But another part says yes because it is a piece of literature and we read it as a choice read in AP Language class (I forgot it in my list).

Thoughts?

mjr2013, I haven’t read this book before, but I just did a little research on it through its Wikipedia page. If anyone were to answer the third prompt with Friday Night Lights, they would have to write a pretty well-written essay to get a decent score. It hasn’t really been published for a long enough time to be considered literary canon or a classic. It also doesn’t help that it’s considered a non-fiction novel.
On another note, what do people think of A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen for the third prompt?

@guitarzero A Doll’s House works well with the third prompt. Oh, spunky Nora!

EndBegin, alright I was just curious about this one because the prompt seemed kind of narrow by asking about youth to adulthood specifically. I thought it fit well also.

Got my scores today! You guys have nothing to worry about. I didn’t even write about a bildungsroman in prompt 3 and still managed to pull off a 5.

Howd you get your score?

I feel like this is everyone’s most unpredictable exam score. I’ve been praying so hard for a 5!

I got my scores!

Predicted: 3

Actual: 4

I used Heart of Darkness!

Flute hoe did you get your scores so fast? I thought earliest was July fifth

Got a 5 with Huck Finn. It’s on most college portals, UCLA just got it today.

Still in HS tho

Is anyone going to read or has read Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison or Brighton Rock by Graham Greene?

College portals?

I’ve read Invisible Man. It’s a great book and you really get to see the racism and isolation that the narrator feels throughout the story.

If you listed a college to send your scores to, collegeboard sent them out yesterday. I was able to log into my university account and access the scores there.

Oh I see. Guess my college portal doesn’t have that option

I got a 5 and was expecting a 3 or 4… I used Sula for Q3

Landed a 4. Kinda thought I could actually get a 5. Still an improvement after getting nothing higher than 3 last year.

I got a 4. I’m happy.
