**OFFICIAL April 2014 ACT (US ONLY)**

@acttest: On math, I was expecting a 34ish - I knew I did well, but I think the curve just worked in my favor…I got a 16 on one of my subscores, so the curve was probably -2 = 36…On science, I was expecting a low 30, and was completely in shock when I saw my grade (I know I got at least 1 wrong)

@ThanksIKnow: I’m a little different than other people when it comes to science. First of all, I love school science, it’s my favorite subject. When I take ACT science, I read the entire passage and graphs top to bottom before looking at the question. However, I read the graphs (and their descriptions) very fast, not attempting to understand them. Then, I go to the question, and I’m able to quickly grasp what the graph it is referring to is explaining (they almost always tell you what diagram to look at). When there is an actual reading passage (like the 3 kids with the blocks of different mass falling), I read it to understand it. Since it was physics, and that is my best science, I actually just wrote a little note next to each kid, and didn’t have to go back to the passages once.

Is there any chance I will still receive scores today?

@teebomb19: Always a chance, but if I were you, I would go to the ACT live chat, and just ask the guy if they are still posting

@nagintapls Yoooo me too man! Still kind of in shock…

Composite Score: 35
English: 34
Math: 35
Critical Reading: 33
Science: 36

I would like to take a moment to reflect on the score I got on the December test…

Composite Score: 29
English: 34
Math: 30
Critical Reading: 30
Science: 23 (Look again at what I got this time around…)

Just goes to show that it’s all about awareness of the test and the right mindset. I didn’t actually study too much more for this one, just really on the science. I went in totally cold for my first try, but after taking a few practice tests here and there, and REALLY going over the science specifically, I knew what to expect going into the test. I also ate a bar of dark chocolate, frank two bottles of water, and got 10 hours of sleep the night before. They aren’t lying when they say it’s the little things that count ;). I’m stoked.

whats the live chat

Should a 33 be retaken for a university like JHU or even Yale?

February Test
C: 28
E: 25
M:35
R:24
S: 26

April Test
C: 30 (+2)
E: 29 (+4)
M:35 (same)
R:22 (-2) — I suck at Reading :frowning:
S: 34 (+8)

Can anyone please suggest me how to improve my reading? PM me maybe?

@VaishS‌ I don’t think you need to if your grades and activities are strong. 33 and up is basically just signifying that you’re qualified :)

“All the scores that were going to be released today have already been posted. At this point there will be scores posted every Wednesday and Friday until all the scores have been released.” --this is what I got from ACT live chat. so lets convene here again this Wednesday! @teebomb19

Good wishes to all ACT takers!

My son, who is a junior, gave his first ACT. His scores are:
31 C
33 E
32 M
33 R
27 S

His Science score dragged down the composite. He will definitely need to focus on Science during his next attempt.

@gillygott‌ Great improvement! Congratulations. I’m especially excited because it was my first time taking it :P

At 1515 Central Time, I had the following exchange with an ACT “live chat” representative. It began with my question, “Will any more scores for the April 2014 test be released today?”

Patrick C: Hi, we are reviewing your question and will be right with you.
Patrick C: scores will be posted every wednesday [sic] and frday [sic] from April 21, 2014 – June 06, 2014
You: Some scores were released today, Monday. Do I understand you to say exclusively Wed and Friday from this point on?
Patrick C: correct
You: Thanks Patrick. I’m sure you are tired of that question.
Patrick C: not really…it gets asked so frequently that it’s almost an automatic response
Patrick C: we will also send an email letting you know that the student’s scores have been posted
You: Thank you for your patience. Later…
Patrick C: any time

Yahoo I got a 32!

Aiming for 36 now! Lol

I’m also stuck in reading, so if anyone has any “interesting” tips, as in, what you personally do that helps, not necessarily the general tips, please either post them here, or PM me

I really need to improve my reading to a 30+, because that would get my composite to a 34+ #-o

@prithis I went from a 23 to a 36 in the science and what I would recommend to your son to just take a lot of practice science tests and go over every single answer. DO NOT DISCRIMINATE. NO QUESTION SHALL GO UNANALYZED.

Can anyone else share their opinion plsss? Is a 33 good for JHU and Yale or should I focus on getting it higher? Honest opinions

ugh. anxiety for another few days?
by the way, what do you think was the curve for science and reading?
math and english?

for those who got their scores, help those who didnt relieve some anxiety.

@VaishS‌ 33 is a really good score. But if you want to feel safe about your applications you should def score higher which im sure you can do!

@vaishS It will really depend on your other scores, like GPA and extra curriculars. But to be honest, my son had a 35 with perfect scores in Science and Math, a great GPA and tons of extra curriculars yet he was waitlisted from Michigan. If I were you, I would try for a higher score if you have your heart set on Yale. With a score like that, any college will be lucky to have you and you WILL succeed anywhere. Please remember that you can always bloom wherever you are planted.
