@bsalum The numbers on Naviance reflect your school, not the applicant pool as a whole. It’s hard to judge, though, when the Naviance numbers are more relevant. Has your school had a ton of applicants to Duke and Northwestern? Our small, PNW high school hasn’t, so Naviance isn’t much help.

The ranges are misleading. You are really only interested in the ranges for kids in similar demographics, and data that is specific enough to be useful is rarely available, especially from private schools.

Agreed…unless there is a strong history of sending kids to a specific college, the stats on 10-12 kids over the last 6 years don’t really help.

Definitely. Thus, the comment “Without any other details on his background, it’s hard to say 100%…”

Ranges do at least give some guidance…if the range was 34-35 for the average, the student might want to get a higher score, but I agree with you & @Afg2014 on other factors…I especially like @Afg2014’s point about how many students applying to the college from their school. I think that has a large impact on their acceptance.

Totally informal here and after going through 122 pages, my eyeballs are bulging out of my head. Nevertheless, @master1006 was pointing out that everyone got 33+ earlier. I was curious… :-?

At whatever post I saw him point it out (or thereabouts), it was 50/50, but after collecting the scores I saw reported here (up through page 122), it turns out @master1006 is very perceptive ^:)^ - just as perceptive as he is at predicting member’s ethnicity’s and personality (<a href=“**OFFICIAL April 2014 ACT (US ONLY)** - #1486 by teebomb19 - ACT Preparation - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/act-preparation/1638164-official-april-2014-act-us-only-p100.html)

Out of the 91 scores I saw:

33 > 34 (36%)
58 < or = 33 (64%)

48 > 33 (53%)
43 < or = 32 (47%)

Pretty impressive. Congrats all!

@Afg2014

I actually have 2 Naviance accounts which makes things interesting. (My older child graduated 2 years ago from a small single sex school in PA and they have not shut out my access.) Subsequently we moved and my current 11th grader attends a very big school in MA. Remarkably, the stats are very similar. There is only 1 school where I think I’ve noticed a bias. Naturally if we had moved to Montana or Alabama, my Naviance would appear markedly different. Not sure what this means except that we probably fall in the same demographic even though we are in a different location, and that’s why the school results are so similar.

I might start our own thread about this…rather than hijack the students ACT one…I think it’s a really interesting topic.

Once you figure out you are not a special (or recruited) applicant (for anything… sports, race, geography, fame, faculty relation, legacy, etc), you should only be comparing yourself with others in the same position. Naviance can be very useful for this, much more useful than college published data which conflates all these applicants into one 25%/75% statistic. Better still is to sit down with a school counselor in front of Naviance, going through the different schools and how similar students have fared in admissions in recent years.

Still at registered. Praying it will come tomorrow

Both my Composite and later my Writing score posted around 8:15 am EST. My status never changed from registered to tested. It went from registered (at 7:00 am) to view scores (at 8:15 am).
