Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

Congrats to all those accepted to programs and to those still waiting on their first, all the best.

I know Duke hasn’t been mentioned much on this thread but is anyone going to be a Blue Devil in the fall? PM me please, cause I would love to link up with a fellow future classmate. Thanks.

ME! ME! I’ll be there! GO BLUE DEVILS!! :)

Wow, it’s like a support group. I will be a Dukie this fall too. I believe Mtlve and Newuser are as well.

Unless I happen to hear from Stanford soon, it looks like I’ll be heading to Duke too! I’m in biochemistry.

Where are you all thinking of living next year? I’ve that Durham is a pretty rough town, but all the places that we saw during our interview weekend seemed fairly nice.

Rejected by UPenn CAMB today. An e-mail told me to check the application website. Now I’ve officially heard back from all programs!

Roxanne: where to in the fall? I heard you signed your life away already…

EvoViro: UCSF Tetrad!

What about you, have you made a decision?

All new Dukies- I will be a 2nd year. Welcome. We might want to move this over to grad cafe’s school threads, so we do not take over this one.

Dreid1987- The advice I received in regards to housing was excellent- live in SW durham and avoid places with Duke in the name. There are also some good places north of campus (colonial village @ deerfield comes to mind). I have not had any problems living in Southwest Durham. Here are some nice and popular complexes in SW Durham: Alexan Farms/Southsquare, Pinnicle Ridge, and Parc @ Univ Tower. Some of these have duke discounts, but you have to sign up early (I think Alexan’s deadline is in April). If your buying/renting a house in Durham, the crime rate changes block by block. I again would find a place in SW or N Durham and do your homework. Again avoid place with Duke in the name including Duke street. The areas surrounding campus can be sketchy, but there are better areas.

Anyone going to Johns Hopkins for Human Genetics?

Since there are a lot of folks “presuming” rejection from Harvard BBS (including me), I just called them for some closure. Kate Hodgins, the BBS administrator, told me that if you have not heard by now via any form of communication, you are rejected. There is no waiting list, and we are to expect a formal rejection letter from Harvard GSAS in the next week or so.

Roxanne:UCSF BMS - see you in the fall!

Durham is not as bad as it is made out to be, or to be fair, as it once was. I do recommend using the [Durham Crime Mapper](http://www.durhampolice.com/crimemapper.cfm) especially if you are looking to buy a place. It will help identify the really bad neighborhoods when you’re looking at online listings.

accepted to UNC-BBSP by email today! Now just waiting on hearing from their Biophysics specialization (separate application)…

if anyone else applied to or is in the biophysics specialization pm me- I have a few questions

Hey guys, I’ll be at Duke too  We should definitely meet up this fall!

Just to let any Stanford Immunology people know…I emailed Maureen and she said all of the acceptances were sent last week…oh well!

Anyone going to Stanford genetics this fall?

I think I’m the only other person here that interviewed with Stanford Genetics but I think I’m going to decline their offer.

Harvard BBS sent a mail with rejection. Did any international hear from Wisconsin-Madison Cancer Bio?

Deciding between BCM, Indiana School of Medicine-Purdue and USC Keck School of Medicine. Do you think it’s possible to live on 27K (before tax) in LA?

That’s what I’m doing, whether it’s possible or not… I’ve heard that it’s really enough from students at both UCLA and Caltech who are getting ~that stipend- that is- if you try not to blow it all on going out and shopping at boutiques. Some students told me that anyone who handles money with good common sense should feel like they have more than enough.
