Official Class of 2013 Brown Waitlist Thread

Hallelujah, there’s hope for us after all! I wish Brown would announce how many available spots there are!

I sent an update/continued interest letter about a week after they initially released decisions–and have yet to hear back from them. I wonder why? I hope it was at least added to my file!

I’m going to email them and ask how many spots are available.

^^ let us know when u find out!

handwashonly, I’m in the same situation. I sent mine a month ago and have not heard from them.

Yes! I called as well and was told the same thing!

Me: Hi! Will Brown be using its waitlist for the freshman class this year?

Admissions Officer: We have started reviewing waitlist applications today.

Me: So…does that mean that students will be taken off?

Admissions Officer: (Giggles) Yes, we will be notifying students no later than mid-late May.

Me: Okay! Thank you so much!

“Click”

Me: YES!!!

I’m excited and I wish everyone the best of luck! Also, pinklady, please tell us how many they expect to come off the waitlist. I did not think to ask that question; I was just so giddy to learn that they are going to use the list!

I am so excited that they are using the waitlist this year! Good luck to everyone and I hope we all hear good news soon. I will update everyone as soon as Brown emails me back.

They emailed me back and send they can’t answer questions like that in an email. I guess I will just call them instead.

Haha…I find that so amusing! Brown is sooooo mysterious!

Hahahaha…“[we] can’t answer questions like that in an email!” Haha.

If I get a chance, I can call to ask.

hahaha yay fingers crossed for us!

The lady who answered the phone wasn’t very helpful. She said that we’ll be notified by the end of the month but they don’t know how many will be taken off the waitlist.

Thanks for the info, pinklady! I forgot to call! Haha…when I came home, I leaped onto my bed and the gears in my head stopped rolling! I guess we’ll just have to wait until they release any new data. Good luck everyone!

I hope I have a chance! I never got back the continued interest card but I sent them an update about my recent activities and my personal continued interest. Hopefully that’ll help . . . I really, really, really want to go to Brown like everyone else here! lol.

So you know how yesterday I got an email that said we can’t answer that question about the waitlist over an email? I got an email today from them. Its really bad news. It said:

Dear _

Thank you for your email. At the present moment our class is full and we are presently not going to our waitlist.
Best wishes,
Brown Admission Office

I don’t understand why they would say they were using the waitlist one day but say they’re not the next day.

Whoa, talk about whiplash! As if we weren’t in limbo before–now we don’t even know if Brown’s actually using the waitlist or not! Apparently the phone answerers and e-mail writers didn’t coordinating their responses.

I’m so mad at them for getting my hopes up.

iso validation

Hmm…now I’m very confused! Brown called my guidance counselor this afternoon and she told me that they said they’re interested in taking me off of the waiting list and wanted to know if I was still interested in Brown. When my counselor said yes, they asked her to fax my 3rd marking period grades and my current 4th marking period grades. Now I’m very confused as to whether or not they are actually taking kids off! I’ll try calling.

Who else received Brown’s “not going to our waitlist” email? I never got it! It’ll seem weird if only pinklady received the email. It may be a hacker (unlikely…), or it might be a glitch (a la UCSD inviting rejected students to the admit day), or they are reviewing a few/regions at a time (but that would more likely result in a rejection rather than an “our class is full” email)! Then again, it may be that CC-er’s represent a small population of Brown’s waitlist and extra-CC-waitlistees received a similar email. Nevertheless, since I spoke with an admission officer and NOT the receptionist, I really believe what he said about taking students off the waitlist.

I also never got Brown’s “continued interest” card in reply to my letter of updates. @AmbitiousMind+everyone else, did you get this card back?

Does anybody feel brave enough to ask about the Waitlist Mystery… and about Brown’s yield? I’ll ask on Monday if nobody wants to. I’m trying to limit my calls to 1 per week. HAHA.

I just finished my last AP test today. Yay! I’m so anxious, confused, and (because of AmbitiousMind’s post) a little hopeful about the Brown wait-list!

@sviola–I never received any such “continued interest cards” after I sent in my updates. It might just be a small portion of students who get them or they are just too busy right now to respond to everyone.

I called but I didn’t ask specifically about the waitlist (I asked something else), however, I do believe they are going to use it. When I spoke with an admissions officer, he said he would add the additional info that I gave him to my file and my regional officer would review it. I took that to mean that they are indeed reviewing applications from the waitlist. (Also, I don’t think they would have called my guidance counselor asking her if I was still interested in enrolling if they weren’t going to use it.)

Also, when my counselor faxed my current 4th marking period grades, I kind of figured my chances were diminished. I currently have three “C’s”…BUT I have a VERY good reason why (this is why I called Brown in the first place). I had been abscent from school for a week and a half visiting colleges and have zeros in the gradebook for the work that I missed. My counselor said that she would send a letter explaining this with my grades (plus I called to tell them personally); tomorrow, I will also fax abscents notes that the colleges gave to me to tell my school where I had been for the days I was gone. Do you think Brown will be understanding? (I’m VERY worried and kind of feel like my chances have been shot dead! It’s like a catch-22; I did all that work to get into college, got in, but visiting the schools proved to be a killer for my grades!) I really hope that they accept my counselor’s letter, my phone call, and my letter!..unless they already voted “no” :(???

I should also add that those three “C’s” WILL go up before the end of the marking period!!! I’m just in the process of completeing the make-up work…man, I hope they understand!

-_- congrats, im very jealous lol
