** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

@nolives which are your top choices?

Harvard (lol), Stanford (see Harvard), Georgetown (deferred EA), Northwestern, UCB, UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCSB, UW and of course UM. I toured last spring and fell in love. It might be my top choice despite my dad’s infatuation with US News rankings.

Edit: Michigan=bae

@mwiw140 agh I dunno. Probably UCLA or Berkeley… but BC/UDub/Cornell/Michigan are all up there. You?

@nolives UC Berkeley seems nice, I would apply if I wasn’t an out of state student. For me probably Umich, I fell in love with the school during the campus tour. It just felt right. But I really haven’t seen any other top schools to compare the atmosphere.

@miw140 ah makes sense. I haven’t visted UMich yet; anything I should make sure to do/see when I’m there?

Arg I hate this. All my friends have already gotten their decisions (so many acceptances, except for MIT because all but one person from my school was deferred from MIT, the other was accepted). I wish I’d applied early to MIT, at least I’d have heard back from one college by now X(

Applying to Umich, MSU, Uchicago, Penn, Notre Dame, and NYU

Hi guys,
I have a question… Berkeley or UMich?
I can’t seem to decide if I were to get into both. :frowning:
Parents like Berkeley more because more well known both domestically and internationally.

Need suggestions please!

@nolives Hmm… make sure you check out more of the campus. The campus is quite large and nice. The architecture is very diverse. The tour only covers a portion of the southern part of central campus. There are many nice restaurants in AA. Do some research ahead of time. You might want to tour closer to spring, if possible.

@Ivory Both are excellent schools. I think it would come down to personal fit and quality of the program you interested in. And also financial aid if that is a factor. So…

Have you toured both schools yet?
What do you want to major in?
Is financial aid a factor?
And are you In-state for either?

Personally I would pick umich. I think just a more well-rounded school in terms of the number of top programs and student life.

daw you are all such fabulous people I definitely hope to meet you all
but like in a less creepy than Internet acquaintances typically meet y’know (because college partayz are so sanctioned)
UC Berkeley and UMich are ridiculously similar (and I’ve had the pleasure of living right next to both of 'em) but I personally prefer UMich–I’m sure you’d be able to be happy at either, though.

Hi @Miw140, thanks for your reply.
Financial aid is not an important factor, I am OOS.
I have not toured both schools but I plan to after I get in.
I want to major in business, so both schools are ranked #2.
I like how UMich is a full college experience and I believe that it is wonderful. On the other hand, my parents really like recognition. It really gets me stuck.

The more liberal you are the farther west you go, a fact that has proven true in American history. Plus Berkely has a reputation for being liberal. Personal taste is what it comes down to I think. @ivory

thanks to @startwithm and @onmaifreetime too.
It’s so hard for me to decide, I’ve been thinking on this for about a year XD

@onmaifreetime, hold up dawg umich is pretty darn liberal because it’s Ann Arbor and not a typical Michigan farming community by any means (+a lot of the east coast is quite liberal and like not so much Utah)

you’re welcome Ivory!!! E>

@Ivory That’s a really tough decision! Both have excellent business programs.
A few more questions…
Where do you want to go after college? (geographically and industry wise(consulting/finance/etc.))
Are you interested in any other academic areas or interested in doing research?
Do you care about the weather?

I want to work internationally. Planning on majoring in finance and stats.
Don’t care much about others. XD

@ivory lol that doesn’t help me out much :stuck_out_tongue:
I was going to say, if your aiming for NYC or Chicago after graduation Michigan would be the better school. I’m not sure how they compare on international business.

Oh! Sorry. Maybe NYC or Hong Kong D:

@Ivory Hmm… for NYC, I would pick umich. Umich is #4 for finance, while UC is #5. And for international business Umich is also only 1 spot ahead. According to US news.

I think it’s really going to come down to which school you like better. There isn’t much of a difference in terms of quality.
