Official Columbia University Early Decision 2016 Thread

can someone give me the link to last year’s stats?

Joining in here. Good luck to all of you! I was fine until Sunday, when I realized we’d get our decisions on the 8th and not the 18th. I’ve been *****ing my pants ever since…

Early only.

^thats sure depressing

i haven’t gotten to email with my password but i clicked on the link. anyone else in my situation?

from that thread of 2015’ers all SEAS applicants (or at least who posted) got in?

Wow… reallly excellent applicants were rejected last year. I probably shouldnt have looked at that, now I’m 20x more anxious.

I just got an email telling me that ‘the committee will meet to review information about my non-custodial parent.’ This is regarding financial aid, and I’m international.

I usually ignore to the urge to infer too much, but what do you think this particular information, at this particular moment (2 days before the decisions are finalized), could mean?

Told my friends they need to drag me to the mall or something right after school until 5 and then we can go into the Apple store to check if I got in or not. Gotta keep the anxiety down somehow haha

@xxxamazexxx, were you the person whose noncustodial situation was such that one parent would not be paying anything? They may be more… suspicious is the wrong word, but you know what I mean. They don’t want anyone getting a finaid package that’s intended for a single parent if both parents will actually be contributing something, so they’re looking more closely at your records? Being international might also make them want to look through things more closely.

It’s probably not a bad sign, but I wouldn’t read too much into it.

guys guys… Columbia didn’t ask my counselor to send my first quarter grades, and I am on the upswing in trend after a rough freshman year, with this year being my toughest (3 APs, 2 honors classes)

I know its impossible to say, but do you think only the candidates who were truly being considered were asked for their grades?

@mcrios2 Who knows. They could be looking at grades for a variety of reasons, and what they see may or may not help those applicants. Those whose grades they didn’t look at, they could already be satisfied with their record. I wouldn’t worry too much! Nothing you can do about it now!

@xxxamazexx: it’s hard to think they rejected you and then sent your info to the fin aid office. I think it’s a good sign, since they are done with all (most?) decisions now and have sent the aceptees info to fin aid office. correct me if im wrong.

@neiro6 Yes, such is my situation, and then some. The legislation in my country does not even provide me with papers to justify myself. I’m so worried…

@LOLSAURUS If I were a domestic student I would be throwing a party right now. The fact that my application is sitting in the FinAid office means I’ve been accepted. But I’m international; it only means I wasn’t rejected outright.

@xxxamazexxx Not being rejected outright = really quite good. xD I’m sure it’ll work out.

@ xxamazexx I’m domestic at got a thing a week ago saying they needed my Social Security # to match my app with financial aid, and I still doubt it means anything. So, what I’m trying to say is, don’t read into anything.

Hey, sort of a weird thing, but I’m trying to keep it on the down low at my school that decisions are coming out this Thursday. One other girl applied ED, so she knows they’re coming Thursday, but we agreed to not tell anyone because we don’t want anyone pestering us. I’m actually kind of regretting telling anyone I applied Columbia ED in the first place, because eventually I’m going to get questions! (Gah!)

Anyway, is anyone else in the same position? How many people applied ED to Columbia from your school?

I’m in same position. I’m the only one in my school applying to Columbia and I don’t really want anyone to know (No “oh its okay” when I get rejected). I told one of my close friends and he asked me in study hall if I heard yet; he was really confused when I told him to basically just be quiet.

At least four other people applied at my school (one SEAS, three CC), one of whom is sure to get in over me. I think if I get accepted I’ll tell everyone (I’m probably the least likely of the bunch to get in) but if I get rejected I’ll keep it on the DL… I’m with everyone else when I don’t want people’s pity necessarily.

Gotta be honest, I’d love to be able to post “Columbia 2016” on my Facebook come Thursday.

Yeah, out of the two of us applying from my school, I’m really not sure which one of us has a higher chance of getting in because as far as I know we have similar stats and we’re both fairly involved with extracurricular activities. I think we’re probably still weak in comparison to overall Columbia admits.

Neiro: Well, I’ll be checking my application status during study hall on Thursday, so I’d love to be able to just scream “Columbia 2016!!!” It would actually probably be acceptable because the study hall supervisor has a pretty relaxed attitude and she would probably give me a candy bar, haha.
