Official Cornell Class of 2019 Early Decision

Im going to agree chance threads are stupid, especially at this point. Every single chance thread I’ve read also all basically say the same thing: “you have a chance” “good shot” etc… Just wait till the decision cones out, nothing is going to change. I feel like the admissions offices are looking for a very specific combination, if you have it then you’re in, if you don’t then your not. No like 30/70 or 70/30 chances. Either you have it or you don’t. We just won’t ever know what that “it” is.

@123211, they specifically told me that they wouldn’t even look at them if I sent them, however, since mine were good, I sent them anyways…

Chem: 740
Math II: 780

@jamesjunkers thank you so much!

Do you have any idea of how many people applied ED to AEM this year? Idk man I’m so freakin paranoid.

Even if chance me threads aren’t real predictors, I don’t see what’s wrong with them. Like when you tell a real life friend who knows what classes you take and has a good idea of what your gpa and test scores are, they may say something like “oh nice I think you’ll get it.” Even though this is on the internet I’m sure we can still feel some good feeling of assurance.

@123211, I have absolutely no idea :O. I’m completely freaking out also, I truly love Cornell and would give anything to be accepted to my dream school.

@Connor2019 one of the various problems is that there are occasionally people who decide to play the Chance Me system and fake their scores, ECs, etc. It wastes people’s time and is very much equivalent to that word which was recently banned on CC.

I personally don’t think Chance Me threads should exist. If you want to know your chances, apply! If you get denied, well, you landed tails on that pre-determined coin flip. Every person has different circumstance surrounding them and so has to be considered accordingly, something which we commoners on CC cannot do for the most part.

Just my daily rant on CC B-)

@jamesjunkers I KNOW!!! I completely fell in love and AEM and Cornell. The flexible curriculum is amazing and the campus is just jaw dropping. It is truly my dream school. Hopefully we will be roommates lol!!!

Okay, really weird question (but I guess we’re all a little weird, right - lol). When you eventually open up the decision page, will it be like a paragraph, or just flat out say “Congratulations, You’ve Been Accepted”/“We’re Sorry, but You’ve Been Rejected”

im thinking it’s going to be like

accepted; “Congratulations! After reviewing your application, we are pleased to announce that you have been admitted into the Cornell…”
rejection: “After reviewing your application, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer your admission to the Cornell University class of 2019…”

I heard they have music play when you get in. Not sure if that’s true though.

I know UPenn plays some historical-sounding music if you’re admitted. Idk about Cornell though

That is going to be the worst 3 seconds of my life, as the page loads, and I have to see if music is played…I think I may turn off my volume :D

I applied ED to AEM & Industrial and Labor Relations! Good luck to everyone who applied ED, hopefully we all get in and we’ll all see each other next year at our dream school  Go Cornell!

Exactly, @Cornell19 and @BPearlman97, very well said!

Do CAAN Interviews have a significant amount of weight on the decision, since Alumni are required to write a 250 word report about the candidate?

@Dynamix34, they carry virtually no weight

Idk, I still feel like CAAAN meetings have some value. It might not be significant, but I honestly think it may change how the adcom views your app a little. Like if there are CAAAN volunteers in your area, and you didn’t get one, there must be a reason besides that they didn’t have enough time. There are 9500 volunteers and only around 4500 kids that do ED. If there are enough 2 volunteers per kid, there has to be a reason.

U of Michigan - Ann Arbor has a recording of their marching band which starts playing if you are accepted. My cousin loaded his app status page in the middle of a class a few years back and that started blasting on his computer.

@Radbg74‌ Yeah that’s the way I look at it. Not everyone gets a CAAAN interview, so there has to be some reason why certain applicants receive one. I don’t think they choose applicants arbitrarily, therefore it must have some weight, even if its very little.

@radbg74 @dynamix34 they carry absolutely no weight unless it goes absolutely horrible or you have some major accomplishment. The amount of volunteers doesn’t matter at all and not all them volunteer for ED. There may be 9500 volunteers but 8000 of them might be on the east coast. It is not possible for them to have an interviewer in every location…

Edit: there’s is absolutely no reason some get interviews, it means nothing, just because you get one doesn’t mens you have a better chance of getting in and vice versa. They are one hundred percent based on volunteer alumni availability in your location
