Yes, staying hopeful here, too. My son does have an unusual major, and it may play out in his favor (plus, he’s a legacy). Chandler, your stats are fantastic. I’m very surprised you weren’t accepted in the first round.

On a positive note, now the deferred EDers can compare financial aid offers from other schools and compare offers.

Yeah, my major is HBHS, so it’s not as unusual as DEA. Thanks
It was probably due to my HumEc essay, which I think while written well, didn’t convey a perfect fit.
Do you think I have a chance at some other Ivies/Williams?

Very true, at least we’ll know where we get in!
(Hopefully Cornell)

^^^Did either of you apply for aid? I know that Cornell is need-blind, but maybe the contract colleges have to be a little more concerned about the numbers because in-state students pay less?

I don’t really understand the GT system. Why doesn’t Cornell just accept the students for the freshman year instead of giving a GT? What other schools give out GTs?

^ I read like 2 of her posts, and I don’t like the idea of Cornell completely privatizing! part of HumEc’s appeal for me is the decreased tuition…yeah $20K a year (tuition only) is a sweet deal compared to most top privates. I’m paying $38K a year at NYU just for tuition and have other costs on top of that.

Yeah, NYS residents are overrepresented at Cornell - turns out we’re also overrepresented at most top schools! It’s cause a lot more of us go to college…what can I say, we’re a smart state…if you don’t like running into NYS residents, go move to Alaska or something…I’m from LI and just about everyone from my public HS went on to college, tons to top colleges/ivies. Cornell is a really popular choice here, regarded higher than other ivies like penn/brown/dartmouth. I never ever heard of Cornell being looked down on as a “lesser ivy” until I found this site.

I just received the results from the CAAAN EDers in my district… of eight kids who applied, SIX were rejected, one was accepted, and one was deferred.

Utter carnage. This stands in contrast to last year when we got in eight of eight ED.

Hi CayugaRed. I am the mom of bijou3owl and she was deferred to Cals. You and others chanced her and thought she had a great shot. While she is upset at being deferred, it seems that a lot of VERY qualified applicants were outright rejected. Where is your district and were all these students also very qualified? I am wondering if you have a feel for if she has a chance for at least a guaranteed transfer.
