Didnt get a likely letter beforehand either

how did you guys all find out your decisions? Fedex, email, snail mail?

IloveCC2 - did u really get in?

FedEx today, I saw that truck pull up and got mad excited

C Prescott Davis Scholar: http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/scholars/program/johnjay.php

Doesn’t entail any money- The Ivies do not give any merit aid but they do ‘honor’ outstanding students.

Germans88, contact your financial aid officer and talk to them about it or if you live nearby schedule an appointment with them. I was in a similar situation (lower FAFSA EFC, almost no aid) because it turned out they read my forms wrong. I know a few other cases where they didnt connect the dots. A word to the wise though, Columbia has a reputation for being a little stingy with money so don’t be afraid to haggle with them a bit!

Rejected…

emails are coming now?

rejected. Fu Foundation.

rejected. cc.

Waitlisted! haha how anticlimatic.

im innnn!!!

I got in. I still can’t believe it myself, it was a total reach!

Well, it’s better than a rejection.

Dear Noelle,

We write to inform you that the Admissions Committee has voted to postpone a final decision on your application. Instead, your name has been placed on a waiting list of students to be considered for admission should vacancies occur in the Class of 2010 later this spring.

We understand that you may greet this news with mixed feelings. In choosing you as an alternate, the Committee believes that you would contribute to the life of Columbia University and benefit from its offerings. However, this has been one of the most rigorous selection processes in Columbia’s history. In such competition the distinctions among candidates can be fine ones indeed, but we can assure you that your application has been given every consideration these past several months.

We hope the information below alleviates a bit of the uncertainty that a place on the waiting list brings by addressing some of your questions and concerns:

• Please be certain to return the response form as quickly as possible and no later than May 1, 2006. It establishes a place for you on the list.

• We do not rank order our waiting list. If spaces become available, we will review the entire group.

• We do provide financial aid for students who qualify for need-based aid, and housing is guaranteed for those offered admission from the waiting list.

• We do not conduct interviews for students on the waiting list, and we strongly advise against the submission of any additional recommendations. You may submit a very brief (one-page maximum) supplementary statement of your own if you wish.

• If you do decide to remain on our waiting list, we strongly recommend that you reserve a place at another school by the common reply date of May 1st.

• If places in the class do become available, we will notify candidates no earlier than May 15th and no later than July 1st.

We would like to extend our best wishes and our sincere appreciation for your interest in Columbia.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Executive Director
Undergraduate Admissions

P.S. Please note that a hardcopy of the above was mailed out yesterday afternoon

the dreaded waitlist. better than a rejection…maybe?
