Trinity–Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 1570/2290 (770 M, 800 CR, 720 W, 8 Essay)
[] ACT: 34 (36 R, 35 E, 35 M, 28 S, 10 Essay)
[] SAT IIs: 780 USH, 770 Math II, 660 Spanish w/ Listening (64 subscore in Reading), 730 Lit, 780 Spanish (I took the last two of these in January. The Lit was supposed to be there just in case I didn’t do too well on Spanish, but clearly I judged wrong. There’s a chance they didn’t even consider these last two scores, though…)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.000 (All A’s)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/320
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (3), Stats (4), Euro (5), USH (5), English Lang (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): n/a
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English Lit, AP BC Calc, AP Micro, AP Macro, AP U.S. Gov’t, Physics honors, French 2
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Finalist (Semifinalist at the time), AP Scholar with Distinction, awards for Model UN (not sure if they are necessarily considered “major”)
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
Model UN (officer), school service club (president), Varsity Swimming, and some other ones that are not nearly as time-consuming and/or important.
[] Job/Work Experience: had one this past summer (11 hrs/week, I think?)
[] Volunteer/Community service: 230+ hours of community service, about 2/3rds of which was done at a local food bank
[] Summer Activities: not sure I put this on the app and/or supplement
[] Essays: apparently good enough–I tried to write the Common App one so that it couldn’t possibly be about anyone else. My “Why Duke” essay wasn’t anything mindblowing, though.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t read
[] Counselor Rec: Didn’t read
[] Additional Rec: Didn’t read
[] Interview: N/A. I sortof thought this was a bit weird, though, considering at least two others at my school got interviews.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): South Carolina
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: I probably won’t end up geting any FA, as I didn’t from Rice…
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): SC residency, possibly? I thought Duke tried to keep 15% of the student body from NC or SC because that’s where the Duke family was from, but a gander at this ([Quick Facts about Duke](http://www.dukenews.duke.edu/resources/quickfacts.html)) makes me think that I’m wrong about the SC part. Still, the Duke rep who came to our school gave a specific sheet or two just for NC/SC applicants.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I’m very dedicated to my extracurriculars, and I drastically improved my Spanish SAT. Also, I will graduate with 6 language credits (Spanish 1-4 and French 1-2).
[] Weaknesses: My ACT Science score, and I’m not in student gov’t. Plus, you never know what others are going to think of your essay…
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred//waitlisted/rejected: Hard work throughout high school, luck, recommendations that I didn’t read that apparently were good, etc.[/li][/ul]General Comments: I have no idea if this affects anything at all, but I turned in my RD app and supplement super early–as in the first week of November early. I’m really blown away by this acceptance. Congrats to everyone who’s gotten in, and good luck to those waitlisted and/or rejected. I’m willing to bet you’ll be getting into/have already gotten into other amazing schools.
