Oh more cause my mom wanted me to. Plus the EA thing was nice.

Thanks, TheDad, mstee, and jpps1. I like your story the best, mstee, for obvious reasons, but it’s good to know that some of the schools on my list might realistically accept me.

Anyway, I’ll stop filling this thread with my fears and insecurities. Once again, congratulations to everyone who got in and good luck in RD to everyone who didn’t!

Yeeessss!! I have heard!
Now I can “officially” post one of these things up.
Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:

SAT: This is where ya’ll are going to laugh…1220…hah, told you.
SAT IIs: USHIST-800; thats all
GPA: 3.9 uw/ 4.3
Rank: 2
Other stats: AP tests: 4 and 5

Subjective:

Essays: Mustard essay;Probably what got me in; It was a satire and everyone told me that it was hilarious and witty; The other two short ones were very good, as well. If I can’t take standardized tests, I sure can write!
Teacher Recs: extremely good; my science teacher even told me I better be happy, because this letter is what is going to get me in…Hopefully, that shouldn’t be what all that got me in.
Counselor Rec: Very good. She was my sister’s councelor and both were very close.
Hook (if any): I did the summer studies program at Uchicago (which I beleive was the major hook)

Location/Person:

State or Country: Tx
School Type: Public-New-Competitive;
Ethnicity: Hispanic/Mexican
Gender: Female

Other Factors:

Extremely enthusiastic and sociable at my interview…this is an understatement-they called my counselor to tell her to send more information about my school so that they can recruit; I knew some faculty at the Oriental Institute and I knew the campus; And I did some wacko science fair projects about Egyptian Mummification and was awarded first in my category (good coming from a very biased based regional competition); Good ECs

General Comments:

I am so releived. This was my first choice, so I am going to Uchicago. Actually, it has been my first choice since I began high school, so you can imagine how releived and excited I am to have an opportunity to study there and pursue my passion in Ancient Studies. No UT-AUSTIN for me! phew Not that its a bad school-just not chicago.

Congrats to all acceptees (hope to see you there next year) and good luck for those who were deferred: Don’t give up!

holy… does anyone everrr get rejected from chicago ea?

:( i’m sad… i shoulda applied ea :(

Is RD a lot tougher?

Regular decision is actually less tough, silver_wavez. Early action rarely if ever helps applicants because the school has to commit early w/o having a commitment from the applicants. But my interviewer said (not having seen my transcript) that if there was any chance I’d have better grades 1st semester this year, it would help me to apply regular.

congrats erin!

Thanks so much Sarah for your support. It’s a pleasure to read your positive and uplifting responses compared to these cynical and caustic remarks made by so many.

PS: Your response to the thread Chicago vs. Yale was very eloquent and reflects the way I feel about UofC. While on campus, I felt that I had found my niche.

Congrats, Erin. You sound like just the kid Chicago is looking for! My S might seen you there in the fall.

I hope so!

Darn Erin, you just took away my unofficial title on this board as “lowest SAT scorer to get accepted!”

lol, jk. Congratulations!

YEAH! And proud of it! ![]()
Ok, I’ll stop with the random posting…heh

so apply RD is just as good eh?

And does Chicago never reject anyone EA?

Also, what is the acceptance rate?

hi silver: i was deferred at columbia and accepted at chicago. you can do it, even if its not columbia!

:) hehe alright qwert
(columbia’s out the picture for me now) lol.

congratulations on chicago btw!

Chicago accepts around 40 percent but it tends to be self-selective pool to begin with.

General Comments: So, i guess, this is it, guys. Who knows maybe Northwestern or Stanford might open their door for me. But, wow…this was quite an experience. Didn’t imagine it would end like this. Good luck to every one of you. What ever happens, I will be at Chicago GSB in 4 years. And yes, I am framing my rejection letter, so that, one day when i get rich, and ready to make a Trump size donation…I will ask the great UChicago–which I will always love–to also hold it.

I will drop by from time to time, but boy am I glad that life still goes on…

may be not 4 years…come to think again…more like 8 years.
