Official FALL 2012 Cornell Transfers

feel a little down about the acceptance rate of CHE~ T T

Out of curiosity, what exactly is the criteria for acceptance? So many seemingly qualified candidates who have outstanding academic credentials and extracurriculars are being denied acceptance.

Is the process mostly a “luck of the draw?”

Ivy freshman admission is usually a crapshoot. In the case of Cornell transfers though, I think it’s a matter of uniqueness or fit. MANY people are qualified, and would do well at Cornell, but some are exceptional and/or have demonstrated that they have a good reason for wanting to go to Cornell and that they would be a superb fit. Many factors go into their decisions though.

Keep your hopes up though, maybe you’ll spark their interest! Plus, by even being able to apply to Cornell shows you’re a great student with potential. And remember, it’s not where you go to college, it’s what you make of where you go.

Good luck everyone that still has yet to hear! Especially @Miami who will probably hear tomorrow.

@Vitakka Thank you so much! I am very nervous, but I will be updating you guys all day. lol

I was just looking at that link about the stats on transfer students and it says in 2011, there were 28 International transfer admits… someone told me that financial aid has about 30 packages for international students… so doesn’t that mean that they were all covered?

http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000457.pdf#zoom=100

Cornell is very good with financial aid. Anyone who has had a problem probably did something wrong in their application or their family makes quite a bit. But as far as I know financial aid is very generous even with international students. I guess it just depends on the individual.

Hmm from what I’ve heard Fin Aid for international students is extremely slim… that’s what the lady told me even before I started my app.

I’m not sure then. I guess I wouldn’t know much for international students, since I live in the Northeast, but I guess you can wait and see what thy offer you.

Hey guys. I can log on to housing now, so that’s a step, right? Haha.

Still haven’t received the letter & cannot log in housing, I guess I need to face the rejection letter next week :frowning: The accepting rate for CAS is so low, I should know that before.

a new week~ a new hope~ ^^

@lcovke- Don’t be so hard on yourself, buddy. From what I’ve seen here, and I genuinely mean this, everybody’s qualified. Everyone here deserves to get in.

meanwhile at the CAS admissions office, to determine who to admit-
(not so convinced this isn’t actually happening)

^Haha @Chris I seriously think that’s how they’re doing it. I am going to call tomorrow

(**i promise i’m not gay…but) May the odds be ever in your favor.

yeah, the housing thing is weird. at first, it said i was either logged out, and a second later, it says i have no access. rejection on the way? :O

Don’t worry about it. They said I was a strong candidate, but I think the fact that my SAT score is a bit low (2030), my essay could’ve been better (had a lot of trouble making my essays “unique”), and the fact that I’m transferring as a sophomore makes it harder on me.

Well, good luck to anyone who hasn’t heard back yet!

guess i can’t be too optimistic. also had a 2030. will definitely let you guys know as soon as i hear! Good Luck!

My numbers are fine, but I think I’m hurting myself with a lack of college ECs and the fact that this will be my second transfer and I’m only going to be a sophomore. I also applied as an undecided major for CAS, so that might work against me. My only string of hope is that they’ll see that they accepted me last year as a freshman and will give me another shot, though I’m not counting on it based on the caliber of applicants there are. You guys all have such amazing stats and stories! So we’ll see!! Good luck all! I’m sure many of us will be figuring things out this week

@Chris1992… I got 2030 and was accepted…So yeah, please be optimistic!
