I am in Macro and US Gov this semester. My district pays for the classes! So far Macro seems pretty easy and I just started Gov today, but I haven’t gotten my textbook key.

When I saw the FLVS AP courses offered, I admit I was (and still am) hesitant to take an AP course online. Regrettably, the courses I had great interest in are only offered on FLVS… Micro & computer science A. I am Currently enrolled in Algebra 2 Honors and am considering doing Physics when I finish to do AP classes in day school. Personally, I would recommend doing that approach instead so you get face-to-face prep time with a teacher (unless your school doesn’t offer certain ones like mine :(

I agree with AimHigh2 and Hope they put up a comparative Gov’ & politics. Supposedly, if you are going into law, colleges like to see that you are interested in the bigger scheme of things.

Can you sign up and take the class whenever or is there a specific schedule? I need to take Calc AB next summer, would FLVS be the place to do it?

No, there is no particular schedule. You can sign up year-round.

Is it possible to complete the program in 2 months and I’m talking spending 8 hours a day doing the course?

Actually some classes only accept requests at certain times of the year. Yes, you can sign up (aka “apply”) at any time, but some courses have certain dates that they run.

sjsharks,

AP Classes accept requests between June-November I believe. You can still request it any other month, but the class will only be considered in that time frame. I suggest you apply sometime in mid-May if you plan to do it in the summer. Make sure you put the start day before June. There are so many requests over the summer. I did a math course in a month on there. Just let the teacher know when you want to complete it and they can set up a pace for you. Yes it is possible to do it in 2 months as long as you work hard. Considering that you will spend 8 hours a day on there, you’ll probably finish it a bit earlier.

So if I wanted to do AP Calculus BC with FLVS, I couldn’t start any earlier than June?

How is AP Art History on FLVS? And If I started it in November, would I be able to finish by March/April?

@Chapen11 - I believe so.
@hammad1337 - I don’t know much about AP Art History. Has anyone taken it that would like to share?

Ok, I took AP Environmental Science on FLVS.
Worst experience ever.

First off, the work is long, brutal, and pointless. It usually consists of making cute, little powerpoints, boring lab simulations, and quizzes. It gets old quick.

The quizzes and tests I found to be challenging personally. They are horribly long. They consist of multiple choice and MANY FRQs. After the first module, I had no motivation in continuing, but forced myself to. I planned to finish this by August… I’m just getting past the half way mark and it’s September… that’s how unmotivated I am.

Is it an easy grade? Depends on what you mean by easy to be honest. I don’t think the work is worth the grade, I would suggest taking another class. But yes, my teacher was an easy grader. During the 11-12 year, you could get Angley or McElligott. McElligott is the easier grader, and I got her! My friend got Angley, and is complaining alot about her.

So should you take it? I would only take it if you are really interested in Environmental Science, and can’t take it at your regular school. The class is simply not worth the frustration it comes with. Save yourself the stress, and take something else.

It’s OK. The “textbook” is sometimes erroneous. Most of the assignments are just little essays. You’ll be able to finish in time, no problem.

I completely agree. Each test consists of 30-50 brutal multiple choice questions and 6-8 short essay questions. It takes me about 2-4 hours to complete each test, and even then, I only score low As/high Bs. Many of the questions aren’t even answered by the “textbook” … smh :(. Don’t be a masochist. If you insist, start on APES in the summer because you don’t want APES to do during the school year.

Soo…absolutely no one has taken AP Calculus BC on FLVS :(

So why do people take this? To prepare for the AP Test? Can it be counted into your GPA?

/Sorry probably stupid questions :/

Ding ding ding! Right answer :).

Many people take FLVS for higher GPA and weighted GPA (a.k.a. HPA). Some do it for educational value. They like to do it. Depends on your motive. The class should help in preparing for the AP test, but it’s recommended to get a prep book just in case.

No one has taken AP Calculus BC on FLVS? There must be someone…

@hammad1337 - I believe there is a small review about AP Art History on page 1. If you work diligently, you could finish by March/April. Most FLVS teachers strongly recommend that you do, so that you would have time to review in April. It’s not required though. You could still be taking the class when exam time comes around, but I believe it’s better to finish up everything before then and review.

@Chapen11 - Following up on the time periods for APs, you can request it up to November I think, unless you can’t start until next year. Then you have to start it in June. You can always request early so you can get a jump start ahead of the summer rush.
