Don’t think I’d trust someone that joined CC just to make that dramatic announcement.

@baseball, haha you’ve got a good 6 months on me XD

omggg so many Deferred on Brown’s thread. Looking at the “hooks” it seems like athletes, URM, and legacy got in…what do ya’ll (yes, I’m from Texas) think about the trend?

thats the way all EA’s have been. athletes, urm, and legacy. for all ivys…

It’s a tragedy!

but Columbia in my opinion seemed to really treat each applicant as an individual with a story and great potential even if the stats (GPA and SAT) weren’t the highest (2200 and above). Each accepted applicant on Columbia’s thread seemed REALLY interesting.

I have a question, does anyone know how much weight coaches’ letters have? Not recruitment, but suggestion? idk. The swim coach wrote the admissions office on my behalf and i wonder how much it will help.

@Virginia good point. But i still feel like Columbia truly applies a holistic approach: looking at everything a applicant has to offer. Maybe Brown accepts less in the ED round than Columbia so the applicants accepted are superior in every way. I’m really excited the direction Harvard decides to take. Only time will tell!

@gymqueenwork: I haven’t poked around in the Brown thread myself, but based on the acceptances to Columbia ED, I agree…their approach seems very holistic. I hope Harvard is the same way!

I think Harvard prides itself on embodying the holistic application process…at least it seems that way in articles and interviews…but we can only hope!

I hope they do! That is my best shot of getting in!

Haha same!!

Me too!

In several articles online and posts on CC it seems that the adcoms are trying to build a class–they can’t do that as well if they don’t use a holistic approach! Besides, learning about someone based on a paper application is hard–they should look at everything given in order to paint a better picture!

But one thing I am a little upset about is that Harvard basically has no supplement. It’s really hard with such a short application to give the admissions committee a complete and accurate portrayal of yourself.

@nickplanet400: That’s why I did the additional essay on the supplement page. I wanted to give them as much of me as possible without overloading them.

I agree. The only way I feel like they could know me is through my essay. My passions are something that has to be seen in person, not on a short paper form.

Yeah I kind of regret not having done it, but I couldn’t think of anything good at the time lol.

Less than two days. I’m going crazy.

The application status portal is officially closed, and there is 1 more day…
It’s freak-out time!

It’s closed? Really? I’m still able to log in. Does this mean I was deferred?
