Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

South Africa - take it you’re from India? Whereabouts? :)

wandilecosa13:yep am from southern India:)

Cool  Good luck

Representing Tulsa, Oklahoma and I still hasn’t gotten an interview.

I submitted Thursday, October 31, and I still haven’t gotten my confirmation email. I’ve already had my interview, though. Is this weird or abnormal in any way?

I’m in the same boat as you McQueen.

Applied like October 28th, still no interview contact and I’m in Columbus, Ohio, so there should be plenty of alumni around.

PLEASE HELP? I’m an international and I didn’t fill out the last question for internationals. It was a 50 word limit answer and I missed it due to some technical problems experienced with commonapp. So I misread it and skipped. I contacted Harvard but it is Veteran’s Week so they are not answering the phone. I’m so anxious right now I want to die. Is there any chance they can let me answer the question via email or submit changes?

I had my interview today. It didn’t go too horribly. :)

@collegeluva why type of questions did they ask you? Good job by the way.

I had my interview today as well! It went much better than I expected. No typical “Tell me about yourself” or “Why Harvard?” type questions. It was essentially a fluid conversation.

Whether I get into Harvard or not, I enjoyed today’s interview and it gave me more insight about college and my major(s) as a whole. Best of luck to everyone else!

It’s pretty random what questions you’ll get asked. The alum who interviewed me started with “So tell me about yourself,” and I kinda just jumped into my extracurriculars. It wasn’t much of a conversation; he just asked me a lot of brief questions related to my various activities and I would give a lengthy response. He seemed pretty happy with the interview as a whole, so that’s good.

I got “Why Harvard” as well, anybody going into an interview should probably expect that question in some form.

interviewer started off with tell me about yourself. he/she was impressed by my AP and extracurriculars and my upbringing. now, i play the wait game.

^Yup… The days are crawling by…

My interviewer asked me questions that she had clearly planned to ask me, but then also a bunch of questions based on my responses and so it was pretty fluid. There was kind of a “Tell me about yourself” question, but I talked more about where I’m from and my heritage (which itself is pretty interesting!) than my extracurriculars. I did end up talking a lot more about my extracurriculars later, but I didn’t try to stuff them into my “tell me more” answer, which I’m glad I did. We ended up talking a lot about medicine because she literally has the exact same degree and job that I want, so it was nice to be able to connect with that. Did everyone else’s interviewer ask them for their SAT scores? My interviewer told me that it was a question Harvard told them to ask? Overall I thought it went pretty well and my interviewer herself told me I seemed like a very driven young woman and that I “interviewed beautifully” (though this could be something she says to everyone, idk…), so overall I’m pretty pleased. :)

Strange. My interviewer didn’t really ask much about my academics or ask the typical “Why Harvard?”/“Tell me about yourself” questions. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a bad thing (I definitely enjoyed our discussion), but our interview went very smoothly and was all about my intellectual curiosity and ultimately what “makes me tick”.

Soooo I submitted my application just a few hours before the deadline (lol so hip n edgy #procrastination). Anyway, my application portal has all of the requirements received except for the secondary school/dean’s report, although according to the common app, it’s been uploaded by my counselor. Should I be concerned about this? :s Are they still filing?

^ I have the same issue. My counselor submitted my recommendations and transcript some days ago and it still has not shown up in the portal, so I assume that they’re still filing.

I’m just letting you know, that secondary school report can take a long time to show up in the portal. My counselor sent it online a solid 3 weeks ago, and faxed it twice. It just showed up as received yesterday.
