Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

That’s a relatively small adcom compared to those in other schools. But the general process (one person reads/argues for a candidate and then they vote) is very very similar or the same at most top schools.

Can you all still access your portal? I thought we couldn’t after “midnight on December 11.” If I can access it now, does that indicate something about my status?

I don’t think so. I can access it too

@ckfy63a, They were speculating about this last year, and no, it does not mean anything. I think it eventually shuts off for everyone, although it does not shut off immediately at 12 AM I believe.

talking about that video … did you guys realize how the committee sympathized with those candidates that had dramatic/disastrous things happening to them … such as the dad’s affair disclosed before his AP Chemistry test; the family’s financial crisis … etc. I just don’t think the committee should allow those unusual circumstances become a strong factor in their decisions. Who knows if those stories are truthful?

I doubt people would lie about those things and I think admission officers are experienced enough to know whose story is fake and whose isn’t. Then again, maybe I’m wrong.

Also keep in mind that those are only clips. There is probably more to each applicant that they might not have said, more than the fact that, for example, her dad had an affair.

@dreamhuge. I agree. I understand stats-based admissions. I think I understand holistic admissions. That just seemed like haphazard admissions.

(To give Amherst a break, maybe some of my impression was formed because of the necessity of video editing)

Edit: as collegeluva just alluded to

Does anyone know when Harvard gives out decision for RD applicants? Is it the end of February or March?

End of March.

Thank you do you know the exact date by any chance?

Nope, hasn’t been announced.

I know we’ve all heard it’s going to be Friday, but who else is half-hoping that it ends up being tomorrow?

well we’re all hoping, but unfortunately it’s not looking too likely…

I’m interested to see the SCEA statistics considering Harvard did not extend its SCEA deadline unlike many of its peer institutions.

Is anyone else curious as to why Harvard has not contacted us about our decision date nor posted any statistics yet? Every other ivy seems to have done so by now. Many of them even moved decision dates to be earlier (Dartmouth’s moved to today and Brown’s moved to tomorrow).

@IHarvard:

The Regular Decision Applicants heat back on Thursday March 27th at 5PM EST.

So guys, what is the actual date they send out their decisions? Is it Thursday morning or Friday at 5 E? I’ve heard it’s Thursday… Can anyone confirm??

Oh God this has been discussed a zillion times!

All the signs point towards Friday the 13th, but for Classes of 2016/2017, decisions were released on the Thursday. As a group, I believe we have reached the consensus 5 pm Eastern Time on 13 December 2013.
