Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@entrebusecon had my interview today, did not go well.

@Extradition,

It’s a good thing that it’s likely the least important part of the admissions process, anyways.

@Tiberium ,
That was my Oxford interview… unfortunately the interview is a very significant (cannot stress this enough) part of the admissions process (which pretty much means I’ve only got Harvard left).

@Jessdilla2015‌ That emoji… O.O

Oh, an Oxford interview.

I’ve heard how much they’re weighted, so that must be rough.

I guess I’m just happy that I don’t feel like leaving the States.

@Falcon1: I’m sure it varies from student to student and school to school, but I’ve heard quite a few students attending top-tier colleges say that college is easier and more fun than high school was. Not a scientific sample, of course, but interesting nonetheless.

As for what students did 30 years ago, as a group they had considerably less stress. Again, lots of variability among students, but on the whole, less pressure and less competition. That’s one reason for the existence today of groups like Challenge Success (out of Stanford). Back in the day, students wouldn’t dream of retaking the SAT if they scored 1500 (Verbal and Mathematical then); now, many of them would, aiming for that perfect score and thinking it will determine their admission fate.

It was all for fun so not too disappointed, too bad I don’t get to go to Oxfordshire though ahaha

Anyone else here have acceptances/rejections? I have two conditionals and one rejection so far :P

@Extradition‌ No rejections yet! But I’m assuming Harvard will by my first haha!

@Jessdilla2015‌ Same! It’s the first result I’m getting, too.

@calliemoon11 and @jessdilla2015 , I got rejected from LSE already so I don’t have high hopes of being accepted to the #1 econ school when I got rejected from the #3 :stuck_out_tongue:

my stress level is a 10 now and maybe a 7.5 normally (I freak myself out a lot)

just curious, and yeezus lovers here?

Has anyone else moved away from Harvard as their first choice since the Nov. 1st deadline? I’m beginning to realize that financially Harvard doesn’t make sense for me or my family. I’m really hoping that I get the Robertson Scholarship at Duke! Need dat merit aid if I want to go anywhere out of state tbh

@Jewwlioonn‌ if you don’t mind me asking, where in SoFlo are you from? 561 by any chance?

@shanethesemi‌
Harvard as amazing financial aid packages.

Harvard has the largest endowment in the world. Aside from schools that offer exceptionally generous merit aid, they are hard to beat on a case-by-case basis, and almost impossible to beat for financial aid, in general.

They can afford to be generous with financial aid, so why do you think that they would not give you enough to make attendance feasible? I mean, you can always appeal for a greater award, anyways.

lmao y’all. Harvard can be and is pretty hard on middle class people. It will give me the best aid out of any private school probably, but even then it may be a financial stretch. Just because Harvard will offer a lot and says its meets demonstrated need does not mean that it is feasible for all families. There are many situations that can complicate financial matters. You are best not to assume that Harvard’s financial aid package fits all.

@collegeapps2k14,

That’s why there’s an appeal process…? From what I’ve heard, when they say that they never want need to hold anyone back from attending, they mean it. (I personally know at least two kids that had to appeal, but ended up getting the bulk of their tuition waived for them.)

Man, I can’t sleep and the letters aren’t even coming out for another 2 days.

@shanethesemi‌ I’ve been gravitating towards CMU and UPenn a bit. I’m not sure though.

hey all :slight_smile: i also applied early action to harvard, can’t wait til thursday!

@Extradition‌ , I also applied to the university of cambridge and had my interviews on monday. they were dreadful so there go my chances… that’s okay though, like you, i just did it for the sake of seeing whether i’d get in or not :slight_smile:
