Hey everyone!! (57 notifications D:) Sorry I disappeared–my choir just had its huge annual Holiday Concert, and we had lots of rehearsals and mini-concerts leading up to it. Finally have a chance to breathe. I was deferred, but I’m holding out hope for RD
Congratulations to all of you!! You all deserve it so much. Harvard’s future is bright. :)

Calling out to anyone who has been accepted (or anyone who knows, in fact), regarding the visiting weekend in April, can internationals attend? I’m from the UK and am still getting to grips with the whole unfamiliar process. Also, if we can attend, does anyone know if help funding the trip is available? I’m assuming not, but as a family we don’t earn a lot and (incredibly) will be pretty much receiving the whole financial aid package. If not, I wouldn’t be able to attend due to the cost of plane tickets etc. :’(

Thanks in advance for any answers.

wow, that was a long weekend… I’m finally over getting deferred, but i’ll admit – i’m foolishly crossing my fingers for rd
the chances are slim to none though, so hoping for the best, like a miracle or somethin!

@Britishapplicant, hi! Someone here referred me to this website -> http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~faoinit/AVPFAQ.pdf
It has some good information on financial aid for attending Visitas! I’m not sure to what extend they will help internationals, but I think it’s totally worth a shot to ask! :)

@Britishapplicant Congrats!! I think you would have to call the office of financial aid (the number should be on the site). I’m sure internationals are invited to attend–the invitation is addressed to all admitted students. If you qualify for financial aid then I’m sure you can at least ask for help covering travel costs.

But to be honest with you, since Visitas isn’t required, they’ll probably just tell you to check out Virtual Visitas.
But I’d call and check anyway. Hope to see you there!

Thanks @jalebigirl , I guess that´s the only option I´ve got. @IxnayBob I am an international, so my “counselor” and teachers really had no idea how to write LORs. I read them though, they were quite good despite that troublesome detail. Thanks!

@123whatever, oh, I had missed that you were international. That explains the specificity of the LORs due to the recommenders not being experienced in writing them. All the best.

Congratulations ED class of 2019! You’ve accomplished something huge! Everyone who got deferred keep hope and everyone who got rejected, you guys have something even better coming up for you guys!

I’m a RD applicant and was wondering how long were your optional essay lengths. Mine is definitely beyond 1000 words at the moments, so can anyone please give me hope and tell me that this length is okay :)

@bubbles12345678 Mine was a bit over 800 words. Don’t worry about the length of your essay. I’ve heard of people writing over 1000 and even adding pictures.

London being a big hub, ticketing cost are cheaper than from many US cities which are not even far away from Boston. In some Ivy Leagues, if you belong to certain well sought after minority groups, just ask for money, you may get it, no matter how high your family income is. Harvard is very big on diversity.

Hi everyone,

On Thursday my applicant status portal said I was accepted, and I never checked again until today when I wanted to show my teacher the good news. But I clicked the status update again and for some reason it says I was deferred… I’m very confused and worried and have emailed Harvard about this. Have any of you experienced this issue before? If they indeed did intend to defer me, could I argue that by law the first status displayed is what represents my true admission status?? :(( I’m so worried and even my college counselor has never experienced this before. He has made three phone calls to the admission office and they are investigating right now. Someone please help?!?

@mercurial23 - That’s a rather unpleasant situation to be in. Did you get an email from Harvard last Thursday? If so, what did it say?

Ultimately only Harvard Admissions can help - I suggest you call them immediately at (617) 495-1551 and talk to someone rather that relying on your college counselor to do it for you.

Good luck!

@mercurial123 - get the phone number of that Harvard Business School professor who beat up the Chinese Restaurant owner for underlisting the price of $4. You may need to prove you did have an accepted status. A screen shot might be good. But anyone can produce a fake screen shot.

@jalebigirl thank you!! That’s true, thanks for your help. The virtual tour looks incredible! I hope to see you there too! :)

@crapdiem thank you for the link, it’s really helpful! Hopefully, if not then I will just have to wait till Autumn time! :)

Guys I just got my letter / package through the post (FedEx) and it’s incredible! I’ve noticed a real personal touch with everything I’ve experienced from America so far, even if it is a small, hand-written card, or a note at the bottom of a letter - everyone seems so lovely!

I called Harvard and they said that they will check on it… and I haven’t gotten a call back.

does anyone know if deferred applicants will receive a letter in the mail yet? or is it only until march when they decide upon acceptance or rejection? i am a little uneasy as i still have not received anything

^^ In years past, deferred students have received a one-page letter in the mail identical to the email/portal notice.

Got in – just wondering, did anyone else receive a handwritten letter from a senior admissions officer?
