Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@HobbitTon‌, First of all, congratulations - that’s amazing! :slight_smile: With regards to your question, you can create a Word document in which you write explaining the update or new achievement/accomplishment, and submit it directly to your application file through your Harvard’s Applicant Status Portal. You could also upload online the actual update you received along with an explanation of what it is. Sending an email to the files room works too, but uploading it online is better because what you submit goes directly to your application file and you can see it immediately on your Applicant Portal. Also, you can call the Office of Admissions and ask them about sending updates - that way you can get more accurate information and make sure your update is received. Does that help?

@aranshghs‌, you’re welcome!

Anyone here a prospective VES Major / is involved with film?

@efr009‌ really happy for him! Congrats…
@calliemoon11‌ @fairyfantasy‌ I totally agree with you, especially the part where u said, “I guess we need to remember that we don’t have to be without doubts or anxiety to be confident”
I bet most of us are going through the same emotions at this moment, we all feel anxious and we even have those moments when we feel hopeless and break down into tears…but in the long run, this entire college application process has made me a stronger person and I’ve learned so much from it… No matter what the decisions are, I have definitely become stronger and more positive throughout this entire journey!
Just as this quote states, “A strong person is not the one who doesn’t cry. A strong person is one who sheds tears for a moment, and then picks up her sword and fights again.”
And about the world, indeed most people have lost their passion, they live simply for themselves…
However, we, the new generation,are the future of this world and we can make a change! Instead of being influenced ourselves, we can influence others! :)

@VardDream Possibly as a secondary, but not as a concentration.

There WAS no story behind it. He was just as surprised as anyone. He has a lot of EC (captain on school track team) but no significant awards. This approves that applying college is like shooting a dart. As far as “official acceptance letter look like,” I will try to get it from my son (he has a copy on his phone) and let everyone know.

@VardDream I’m a prospective VES major! specifically for film

@Robots156‌ Well, I’ve gotten a 2380 in my SAT (800 in Math and CR, 780 in Writing), 4.0 GPA. 800s in SAT Subject tests (Math Level 2 and Physics). That’s just academics though.

@efr009‌, Congratulations! That’s amazing, and I’m very glad for him! :smiley:
However, are you sure he isn’t a recruited-athlete? You just mentioned he is the captain of his school track team. The fact that he got an official acceptance letter three weeks in advance seems a little odd, but as you accurately said, “applying [to] college is like shooting a dart.”

Knowing that apparently people are getting accepted already, really adds more anxiety and pressure to the stress I’m already under. :’-(

@efr009, congratulations to your son’s friend! Let us see the letter once you get a copy. That’s so surprisingly awesome.

@p0tatoes @skieurope Awesome! Do you have any extracurriculars/awards related to film?

@visionary123 couldn’t agree more! and im pretty sure Harvard already has decided who’s going and who’s not, so it’s really scary to imagine that our fates are already decided 0.0

@easycadence‌ I wouldn’t worry about that. They haven’t decided yet at all. The only thing they have decided is rejections, maybe. They only meet in committees after Thanksgiving, so they are still deciding. I am quite surprised that someone has already received an acceptance letter, sounds a bit fishy
:|

@easycadence‌, I’m really about to lose it. As you accurately said, our fates are probably decided already. Personally, Harvard means a lot to me. My interest is genuine and goes beyond the prestige and value of a good name, which unfortunately, are the main and only reasons why some people apply to Harvard. My interests are academic and personal.

@mimosa26‌ That’s a beautiful way to look at life.

@PcollegegirlP‌ For some reason, the quote you shared brings to mind this. This is certainly what college apps feels like! :stuck_out_tongue:
<a href=“King Théoden's Battle Speech - YouTube”>King Théoden's Battle Speech - YouTube;
And I love what you said that we are the next generation, and that we can change society. That’s really inspiring :)

@easycadence‌ AHHHHHHHH

I haven’t even been contacted for interview yet, and it already is November 26th. I sent an email to my regional Harvard club requesting an interview, but still haven’t gotten a reply back. A good friend of mine and co-applicant to the College was contacted for interview after a week of submitting her application (we live in the same geographic area). I’m honestly starting to lose all faith and hope.

Also, I have to admit that that I have resorted to watching bad college movies to pass the time. Everyone here should watch How I Got into College. It’s so bad, and yet so relatable and also hilarious.

@calliemoon11 I’ll try to watch that. If you’re watching college movies, you should watch Accepted!
(or 22 Jump Street haha, but that’s a bit different)

@visionary123 don’t lose hope. People say it again and again, so it must be true: the interviews don’t mean a thing (unless you accidentally set the interviewer on fire or something). My interview was last week, and I submitted everything by mid-October. The lady said the first interviewer assigned to me couldn’t manage the time (hence the delay) and it didn’t mean much if nobody had interviewed me. Btw, what would you say if the interviewer asked “Why Harvard?”

@Visionary123‌ I’m so sorry! :frowning: That’s really stressful. I understand what you mean about Harvard meaning so much to you. I hope your situation is resolved. Maybe you could contact the admissions office?

@calliemoon11‌ haha love the comparison u made between the college apps and the video lol!
I totally feel you haha! :stuck_out_tongue: And I will watch that movie tomorrow if I find the time…
(U should start watching a series or something…something like the vampire diaries lol it’s amazing, if u r into vampires lmao)

  • did u have time to read 2017 thread?
    @Visionary123‌ Don’t lose faith! A lot of applicants haven’t been given interviews and interviews aren’t really guaranteed! Don’t worry… And many applicants have been accepted without interviews… Stay positive…
    @Karabekian‌ oh, u had ur interview? That’s great. How did it go? Did u end up getting “why harvard?”
