Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@harvard00‌ Well then, I guess you will be making school history in a few weeks ;)

@calliemoon11‌ Thanks!! I’m a questbridge finalist so I applied to Yale, Princeton, and Stanford early. Find out on Monday lol (but unlol because I’m freaking out)

@Karabekian I applied to Yale^ and I thought the supplements were great and engaging and gaveyou a lot leeway to express yourself. I also did princeton and let me tell you… Everyone talks about howh long Stanford’s app is, but if you’re applying as an engineering major to pton, so much writing  But if you like writing (like I do) then its even better

@graceunderfire‌ @Karabekian‌ The Princeton one looks pretty long, but it actually isn’t too bad! It’s mostly a bunch of one-word/phrase responses. The essay prompts are a little tricky, though.

@Karabekian‌ Amherst and Williams have pretty out-there prompts, but they’re each only 300 words, and Amherst offers an alternative option of submitting a graded paper.

how long do you guys think a personal update should be…i know they don’t want to read a bunch of useless stuff, but all the things i mention aren’t really addressed in my application, so i think its a relevant update…its 440 words though…i feel like thats kinda long…

@emenya Ahh! Best of luck

@calliemoon11, agreed! Except like what @emenya said, I’m applying as an engineering major to Princeton so there’s a loooooot of supplement writing. But I don’t mind! I like writing essays

Hi guys, I’ve been following this thread from when it began, and good luck to you all!

@emenya‌ @graceunderfire‌ Ohhh, I see. What kinds of additional prompts do you have to answer? Good luck, emenya!!

My research advisor submitted a supplemental rec, but it doesn’t show up on the portal. Does anyone else also have this issue?

@youngster9‌ i hope so! Everyone is really positive on this thread i’m very proud of us :)

@calliemoon11‌ I’m applying to Amherst and Williams!

For those who submitted a resume, did you just include the things not on your common app?

@FlyingWombat, I have an additional rec letter too from research. It doesn’t show up on the portal. I’ve heard only required stuff shows up in portal. (However, I can see my supplementary materials.)

@Karabekian‌ MIT has 5 supplements…quite a long process!

@sweetomango‌ YAY so many people joining this thread!! Hello!

@FlyingWombat‌ @nomatterwhat‌ Same with me. I don’t think additional rec letters show up on the portal.

@harvard00‌ My main ECs require a bit of explanation, so I used the resume to fully detail what they are and what exactly I do, and to demonstrate the depth and breadth of my commitment! And yay for Amherst and Williams! I love both of them.

(Page 100!!!)

Columbia supplements are pretty lengthy as well

Got to finish a lot of essays as an international seeking FA. I like writing essays when words seem to flow, and my output on paper is exactly what I want to express. But lot of times, it is just frustrating, when I get struck.

Wow this is insane. We’ll end up passing 200 by the time decisions come out, the way that this thread keeps on heating up.

I’ve applied and gotten accepted to my state safeties. A few more decent schools in my state, a couple more Ivies, Stanford, UChicago, NYU, and Amherst should round up the list.

U guys are so cool, some of u are writers and others have done great research stuff…
@AuTurtle‌ haha u are definitely not the only one… I think about Harvard ALL the time lol and I think I Think about H a bit too much and a bit too often…
@calliemoon11‌ Do u think I should request the access code or is all the info on that page the same??
Lol I opened my account and saw I had 64 notifications. I was amazed…good job guys!

Most other colleges have questions/supplements that are way more involved than Harvard’s. I read an opinion somewhere that Harvard keeps such a simple app (common app + optional essay on anything) to get their app numbers up-- it doesn’t take much effort to send a Harvard app.

And @ekroxx‌, yeah-- MIT is different haha. Also they only ask for 5 activities max…
