Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@entrebusecon‌ I think that’s a great approach, actually. You’ll show colleges what’s important to you and who YOU think you are, instead of conforming to a vague idea of what others might value about you.

@oxoxhawja3xoxo‌ Yep, I left several things off my application, as well.

@PCollegegirlP The last guy from my school to get accepted into Harvard didn’t write a supplement either, so no sweat :)

@ninetyneinprobs Yup. that’s definitely a tough question to answer. Only Harvard’s ad com knows. My nerves are so not calm. I met with my counselor at school twice last week to vent. bahaha.

I hope we all get in, but it’s a sad reality that we wont. :((( Definitely start writing your other essays though. That way you won’t be discouraged if it is a no from H. I’ve applied to 5 schools so far, and it feels great. Besides, writing the other apps helps take my mind off of H.

I don’t really know if Harvard is my dream school really. I don’t think I have one of those. I just think it would be a great experience, and the people are really spectacular who go there. I want to surround myself with awesome people. And I guess the options are endless there when it comes to academics. I’m a person who has no idea what they want to study, so I definitely need that. After doing so much research on it though, I’d definitely be crushed if it were a No. Harvard’s like my boyfriend and submitting my app was like saying “We need to talk”. and the admissions email will be the break up or the will you marry me.

the suspense is killing me. hahaha.

Hey guys. Penn ED applicant here.

Just curious: What time do ED decisions come out? 3pm? 4pm? 5pm? (*eastern time)

Thanks!

@smc101‌ based on last year 3 pm

@oxoxhawja3xoxo‌ Yeah, I’m gonna get started on my other essays soon. You seem to be way ahead of the game, at least compared to me.

And I’d be so lucky if I got into Harvard, but I’m certainly considering other schools. I really like Harvard’s financial aid (I’d get a free ride if I got in!) and location, among other things (that I won’t mention, so that I don’t get too excited here), but I understand that many qualified applicants won’t get in. It’s tough, but we’ll see results in two weeks.

Also, great metaphor!

@ninetyneinprobs yes! definitely do. Where else are you looking? I definitely have applied to the schools with the easier supplements. I’m totally dreading Columbia and Pomona’s among others. haha

Yeah, I get a free ride also. My mom’s a single parent with cancer, so you can imagine how much money we have.

thanks. I’m a decent english student. haha

Does anyone know if there is a way to submit a news article written about an organization I started to Harvard?

Yes. You can send it as non academic material.

Ok, thanks for the answer! @nomatterwhat‌

Hey you guys, to maybe calm the nerves a bit. According to last year’s Harvard SCEA results thread, the acceptance rate for CC’ers who posted was 57.69% (30/52 Accepted and the rest were deferred)

Of course there is no reason this happens again this year and not everyone who applied posted, so…

But still it is interesting and could give some people some hope :)

Edit: LOL, I just realized how wierd and nervous I look for counting all the posts in last year’s thread

@youngster9‌ that would be really awesome if most of us got accepted! I think i have some of the posts from the 2018 pages memorized so don’t feel bad

@youngster9 HAHAHA that is great. Though I’m sure many of the rejected and deferred people slowly faded into the background after receiving their admissions decisions… The odds are looking pretty good.

@calliemoon11‌ @graceunderfire‌ This is late lol but thank you!

@oxoxhawja3xoxo‌ YES! That’s a wonderful way of describing. Except for me, I feel like this boyfriend isn’t just another option, but my soulmate…if he breaks up with me, I’ll be terribly devastated. I know I’ll eventually find happiness in the arms of another, though. :)

@youngster9‌ I was wondering about that exact thing!!! Thank you so much for counting! I noticed that there seemed to be a really high rate of CCers accepted…that’s a great sign.

“Remember, Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” --The Shawshank Redemption <3

I wrote my supplement about something a little bit strange. I talked about my exchange trip to France and how I interpreted and reacted to their very physical greetings (salut + tons of kissing) coming from an American culture that really isn’t in to all that.

Haha thanks guys, I don’t feel that weird anymore for counting that out.

Also I know there are a few other prospective CS (Computer Science) concentrators. Just incase any of you didn’t hear, Steve Ballmer is giving an estimated $60 million to the CS department to expand the faculty size by 50%!!!

This is incredible, it makes me want to go to Harvard even more so I can catch the CS wave that is about to happen. Also I have been watching CS 50 videos, oh man I keep falling more and more in love with Harvard.

Stanford please save me before I reach the point of no return. ;)

does 2400 increase chances significantly? i heard 45% get in which is a significant increase from 5%! also happy holidays everyone
