OFFICIAL MATH IIc Discussion Thread [October]

q3t6w9 is the right answer

There were a lot less ‘solid geometry’ questions than I expected and more algebraic ones. I thought that was nice.

For the one about the runner/average speed thing, did everyone get 60 as the overall average?

I think the average was 53 1/3…

no, 53 1/3 was the right answer and some people confirmed it few pages back

and yea, plane geometry is my weakness and the test didnt have many solid/plane, which was good

the tangent question was tan(120)=-1.7 right?

Aww, I did something wrong with that one then :(

Yeah, the tan one was -1.7 :)

There was a question about sinx and sin4x, I think ppl talked about it a few pages back. I was confused as to whether to use rad or degrees for that one?

how is the 20km one not 60? rate of 40 for 10 min and rate of 80 km for 10 minute…average…60 km. how do you get 53 1/3?

“how is the 20km one not 60? rate of 40 for 10 min and rate of 80 km for 10 minute…average…60 km. how do you get 53 1/3?”

Yeah, I was sure about that one when I did it.
(40x10)+(80x10) all divided by 20 gave me 60.

julina you use degrees for it

ok, think of it this way dk333

if you travel 40km/h for 10 km and 80km/h for 10 km, then you would travel the 80km/h for 10km FASTER than you would travel in the 40km/h for 10km

since you travel FASTER, you take less time, meaning that you take less time driving 80km/h than 40km/h

since you spend more time driving at 40km/h, the average would be lower than 60km/h

how i did it was 40km/h for 10km means you spent 15 min driving 40km/h, and 80km/h for 10k you spent 7.5min driving 80km/h

(4015)+(807.5)/(7.5+15)=53 1/3

Ok, how did you know to use degrees? >.<

no you spend the exact amount of time going at 40 and 80

10 hours on each…do the math

40 times 10 plus 80 times 10 divided by 20 = 60

yeah, you do spend the same amount on each one. it’s given in the question. it didn’t say that he travelled fora total of 20 minutes without being specific to how much time was spent on each speed. it said 10 and 10. i’m hoping 60 was right.

I remember, 40km/hr was like 15 minutes and 80km/hr was like 7.5 minutes or something.

the question said 10 and 10, i’m almost positive :stuck_out_tongue:
the 15 and 7.5 are what aznosamaboy used to get his answer.

ummm…

it’s definitely not 10 and 10

because if you’re traveling at different speeds you go different times

and the average speed is distance traveled over the TIME CHANGE

so you take the distance (?) over 22.5mins=53.3333333

dude, its not 60. stop fooling yourself.

u go different times, cuz travelling at 80 km/h is obviously going to take less time. the question did NOT mention how long each way was, anyways.

it was 10 andc 10 for sure and it was 20 miles total

i don’t recall the question specifying a time.

ok think of it this way

if it worked your method (40+80/2=60), it would be question #1 on a math Ic test, not a #49 on a mathIIc test

yeah, i think you’re right. i must’ve mistaken the 10 and 10 for time rather than distance.

“it would be question #1 on a math Ic test, not a #49 on a mathIIc test”
Yeah, I was thinking about that :P
