I dont rememer what I had for it but I’m sure it wasn’t transition. If you read the passage, that sentence doesn’t primarily function as a transition. It’s more like she said it to explain WHY it was more important than ever that she should be comfortable. So I think I put down expand on a previous claim or something like that
Wait wasn’t the sentence ‘When I want to get comfortable while working a crowd, I’ll survey the crowd looking for my mother’, before this she doesn’t mention the crowd or her mother. As for explaining why she does that later in the paragraph when she says "Finding some ‘regular’ people there helped me get in touch with the values that shaped my desire to go to politics in the first place.’ explaining specifically why she was ‘looking for [her] mother’.
@ZaGongShow Yeah it was ‘becoming’, because it was modifying temperature when it should be modifying lions manes; the temperature wasn’t becoming shorter it was the manes lol
@swp930 no the sentence in question was “I was one of the youngest people in the room, and certainly one of the few African Americans.” This doesn’t initiate a transition. The line following it transitions, but this specific sentence asked about is there because she is defining why it was more important than ever to get comfortable.
In the preceding paragraph she talks about her credibility and how she built up a name in politics and all that, and in the next paragraph she shifts her perspective to show how she gives her speeches. I would argue initiate…
@ASAP123 I thought it would initate a transition because this is the first time that she actually mentions that she is African American, and hence, starts to like give way to a different topic…
