I mean this with complete appreciation for all the hard work and pride kids feel when getting accepting to college, especially ED. But I find it interesting that before ED decisions come out everyone is commiserating by holding virtual hands and playing a kumbayah sound track. Then the rejections and deferrals are announced and for some reason (arrogance bravado?) the accepted seem to inflate themselves as the only ones truly worthy of acceptance. Please try to understand that a lot of well qualified people are not accepted every year and the accepted might have landed in a completely different pile last year or next. My thinking is merely that there needs to be slightly more compassion for those who are merely disappointed or struggling to understand the admission’s process and where they fit within it.

While I am slightly put off by the idea that being an athlete precludes you from taking AP’s, getting great grades and test scores, I’ll let it go.

This said, I fully admit to freaking out just a tad that April will roll around and my kid will be developing a website of some fake college he’s created just across town in an abandoned mental health facility.
