So… I’m new around here. Hi to you all.

I got deferred too…
This really freaks me out seeing Zlin’s stats, and I’m feeling like my chances just got even slimmer. I think I’m pretty good, but not that ridiculous. My high school doesn’t calculate GPA, so I’m not sure what mine is, but I’ve got all A’s except for one B+ in a sophomore history class. I’m pretty sure I’m in the top 10%, and I was inducted into Cum Laude earlier this year. I took 1 AP last year (Latin lit, and got a 5 on the AP test) and I’m taking 4 AP’s this year (English, Latin Vergil, art history, and French language). I’ve been a dual language kid (French and Latin) throughout high school, which I thought Midd would like… Gotten a few awards for National Latin Exam, including their Summa cum Laude award.
The interests I stressed most were English and Classics and studio art (I’ve been in advanced drawing studio for 3 years, won a drawing award at my school, did a summer program printmaking at RISD, and sent Midd a portfolio). My supplementary essay was in response to the J-term class question, and I wrote about an illustrating-Latin-poetry class, and enclosed this comic I made of the first few lines of the Aeneid.
Did anyone else express similar interests? I mean, I know English is pretty common, but I was hoping I’d get points for being unique in the visual arts and classics area.
I suppose my extracurriculars are okay but not amazing. I’m an editor (not editor-in-chief) on my school’s arts journal, cartoonist for our newspaper, student leader of our creative writing club, and I’m a member of our crossword/scrabble club. I’ve never done any sports (because, frankly, I am a wimp). I felt too guilty to put down environmental club, even though I attended their meetings most of last year, because pretty much all I ever did was sit there and steal their bagels.
One of my recs was from my 11th grade English teacher, and she’s a Middlebury alumn. I also ran my main essay by her and another English teacher, and they both loved it… so I’m hoping that helps…
Oh, and SAT’s… 2210 altogether. CR: 750 V: 790 M: 670
And 740 on SAT II in literature. Still waiting to hear back about SAT II in Latin, which I’m a bit nervous about because I was not feeling in tip-top shape that day.
Also, I’m a white girl from NY.

You know, Zlin, I’ll eat my foot if you don’t get in. I’m just hoping there aren’t too many applicants like you, so maybe I’ll be the next tier down that gets accepted. Argh. Can’t believe I’ve got another 3 months in limbo.
