Hey guys whats the level of difficulty of the chemistry placement examination? I haven’t taken CHEM 40 yet or any bio/science class at MT.SAC but i want to jump to CHEM 50. I haven’t taken a science class since I guess my senior year in high school when I took Anatomy. What kind of stuff should I expect on it?

Also the geometry competency test, I completed Math 71 a few months ago this spring and besides the homework, it wasn’t too bad.

Wanted to post a question in here to see what everyone thinks. I’m trying to get into a PE class that is not related to a team sport (meaning no competition involved). The person in charge/coach is not adding people when online it says there are 11 remaining seats open. 7 on the waitlist, 2 of whom I met were not allowed to stay and go home, including me. Can they do this?? Mt. SAC’s P.E. system is a joke.

if there are seats open i do NOT believe they are allowed to boot students out unless there were some sort of last minute cuts…which is entirely possible. are u taking the PE class just merely for credit or for fitness? mtsac has a free gym if ur trying to get fitness.

i would talk to the department head or some counselor/student services to see what is going on. even administration should be able to help you. if there are open seats theres no reason not to add. in fact, if a professor doesnt reach a minimum for a class…the class is canceled. :

I’m wondering if I should bother with honors or not. I’m aiming for UCLA/USC as top choices. (I might even potentially aim for universities out of state, but I’m not 100%). I’m planning to major in either biochem (future pharmacy school) or architecture (it’s my dream, but job market is terrible… so if I want to head this route I might have to switch to urban planning/development). Currently undeclared at mt. sac.

I guess I should throw out some stats as well. I graduated hs this year with a 3.58 and 1920 sat. I was originally going to UCI because I didn’t get into LA or SD, but due to financial reasons I ended up here at mt. sac. (I receive 0 financial aid at the moment).

I realize that I can transfer pretty quickly as some of my AP credits cleared some prereqs. I got credit for my 5 in english lang. & comp. Apparently they’re fixing the AP system to take more than just calc/english… so I asked the counselor and I figured out that I can get credit for my 4 on world history thanks to the counselors. I’m not too sure about my 4 in physics b or 4 in chem.

I got credit for eng1a and I easily placed into math 180 since I took calc in hs. I was lucky to get into summer interssion and got an A in psych1a and I’m 100% sure I’ll get A’s this semester for arch. 11 and soc1, so I’ll have my nice 4.0 for now.

Any input on what I should do? And I made an appointment to see a counselor again, but for the time being I’d love to hear something from here as well.

sorr y for the late responses. been busy with senior year coming up.

yes mtsac has a free gym
its located in the back parking lot. i believe LOT F? the one across the street where the soccer field is. the gym is hidden in the corner.

@caroo - do honors, it seems like you already know where you are doing in terms of your grade management. honors can only help you get into those schools. especially with a major like biochem.

hey guys i was just looking at the winter 2012 schedule of classes and was wondering what are some of the classes that you would recommended for someone to take during this 6 week semester. I know some classes have lots of material and wouldn’t be a good idea to try and cram it all up in such short time period.

I apologize if my question has already been answered, but I combed my way through this massive thread as best I could looking for it.

I am just wrapping up my first semester at Mt. SAC, I am in the honors program and I plan to join PTK and possibly AGS next semester.

I am hoping (like just about every Mt. SAC student) to transfer to UCLA. I plan on completing honors and TAP. My intended major is economics or possibly math or both. What courses should I take, aside from the obvious prerequisites, to distinguish myself? What extracurricular activities, aside from those I listed previously, could I take part in to have an attractive econ application?

On an unrelated note, does anyone know of another local school which offers a math course that I could would count as math 180 in the winter session? All the 180 classes at Mt. SAC are full up and haven’t shown any signs of changing.

Hello niceperson, so you want to take 180 during the winter huh? If I were you, I’d show up to Sholars’ night class. She has a history of adding a lot of people, especially during the intersessions. I took her for 180 this past summer and she eventually added everyone that showed up. The important thing is to keep showing up to the class even if she says that there is no room for you. Sit on the floor if you have to. If she sees that you’re determined to add the class, she will eventually add you. Half of the class will end up dropping anyway. At least that’s how it went in my class.

whats your guys’ experience on getting classes during winter session that you are not on the waitlist for? No chance at all? Any tips (show up early?)?

Hey dainese, as a psych major, I’m interested in going to SC. How is it? Any suggestions? Im a little scared because I didnt know that they didn’t adopt the academic foregiveness policy. My gpa is gonna be around 3.6-3.65 for SC and I’m not sure if thats good enough.

I’d advise you still go to class because you might just get lucky and get in. If you’re not picky about the class and need it to fill in a GE, then try for PHIL 5 with David Lane. He added everyone, waitlist or not.

is it just me or is anyone else not getting their fall 2011 grades even though the final grades section lets you select it from the drop-down options?

I’m kind of freaking out right now because I don’t even see my fall 2011 courses listed, just my AP credit courses… what if they accidentally deleted my course records…

I wish they would hurry up with our grades…
