**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

Tamayo is a fantastic professor! I took him for Math 280 and he wrote me a letter of rec.

Hi guys long time no post. I need some help here.

This is my 2nd year and didn’t get any summer courses, no surprise. My GPA had gone to hell and I have a cumulative 2.61 right now. Do I have a chanve in getting into UCs for a Computer Science B.S.?

I didnt take school seriously and got some C’s but I’m doing well this semester (2 classes both potentially A’s depending on finals). Please help, I really wish I stepped it up but its depressing never getting any classes. I am done with UC IGETC and have yet to get any Major courses. I’m focusing all my efforts in school now but want to know if I can still raise my GPA, preferably to a 3.5? Should I take BS courses just to raise my GPA and get more seniority credits?

I’m pretty desperate here lol. is there any way sac lets you retake C’s? I’m also going to register for Citrus tonight. I’m not ■■■■■■■■, I scored a 2080 SAT but my study habits are terrible. :frowning: I’m hoping I can at least show my parents I’m not a complete failure and transfer out.

@Dainese: I started ridin last summer and have a dainese jacket  what bike do/did u ride?

i’m international student,so what my deadline which i need to summit my documents before is. June or July.

@crux - oo someone finally knows what my name is haha
i had a r6  but i dont ride anymore…cant afford to do so in LA.
what kinda bike do you have? and props to you for riding with gear.
saved my friends life when he downed on a freeway so…keep wearing it no matter how hot it is.

as for your questions…how many units do u have now?
if you have a low amount of units you can easily change your GPA
but if you have a lot…its a bit harder.
you cant retake classes with a C; however, if you show an upward trend in terms of As…the UCs may consider you if you explain that you finally buckled down etc. just remember that your competition tend to be students who buckled down from the start and have strong GPAs so you will have to make quite a strong case.

but i do know people who have gotten into USC with a 2.7
and to UCs with less than stellar GPAs.

and you did pretty well on ur SATs so thats always a plus.
id suggest doing extremely well on ur major courses because those are the ones that matter more…though the UCs want you to do well all around, they can careless if u did poorly in philosophy if you are a comp sci major.

and try to get really involved as well to show a huge change in terms of your attitude towards academics. if you can try to grab an internship/volunteer/shadow…anything will help.

@samchen - im not quite sure what documents you are speaking of…

Hmm, well practically every class had their waitlist closed by the time I got to register today at 10am. Doubt that any classes will open, can only hope that the fall won’t be as bad. Good luck to anyone on the waitlists.

Hello! I previously posted on this forum/discussion! I don’t know why but I tried to register for math 150 over the summer, but it said prereq error. The weird thing is that I placed into math 160. I dropped math 160 though because I was not able to handle the amount of units I signed up for. I’m a bit confused on why I cannon register. I would call the assessment center, but it is closed right now. And I am a but stressed out about it. I was wondering if the fact I dropped Math 160 affected my placement? Also, I looked at my assessment scores and math 160 does not show up. I am really really hoping mtsac won’t make me retake the placement! I really don’t want to take geometry or the take the competency test!
Someone please help me!

How long ago did you take the placement test? I think after 2 or 3 years you have to retake it.

Btw, just to make sure… If you get an F then retake it and get an A then your GPA should be 4.o right? I think something screwy is going on with my gpa.

I’ve been lurkin’ for awhile and actually read all 113 pgs of this thread, I guess it’s time to contribute.

@jackiet - I had the same issue when trying to add Math 150. You need to show proof that you passed Geometry and be cleared to take the course. This can be done by showing a copy of your hs transcripts to the secretary in the Math Faculty section. I’m not sure what room number she’s in, but it’s in building 61 on the first floor near the MARC.

oh a lurker! hi :)

to answer anything untouched

@cyse - if you get a F and retake it and get an A, i believe what happens is that the F GPA still stains your GPA but the A obviously boosts it. once you transfer though the UC’s or other school will see that you retook the course and see the A.

it shouldnt be anything to fret over…but id clarify with a counselor to see if there is anything more you can do. there are special cases in which grades can be “removed/hidden.” i had 1 D, and 1 C hidden from my records because i had taken the classes over 2 years ago (at the time i was at mtsac that is)

just remember to drop classes with a W if necessary.

@Dainese: hey man thanks for the reply. I got admission into Citrus and hoping I can get my A’s this semester.

You’re not gonna believe what happened the day after I posted. I was up GMR and a car ran the double yellows and hit me head-on. Thank jesus for Dainese… I have a fractured pelvic in 2 areas and walking with crutches. Hoping I can make class on Friday :frowning: And I rode a Orange/Black GSXR 750 till just Tuesday :/

oh wow…THATS CRAZY…im glad you are okay. :frowning:
take it easy man. your health > school.

heres to a fast recovery!
and yes, thank god for dainese indeed lol.
you cant go wrong with legit gear.

im assuming ur bike got totaled…is insurance getting involved? hit-n-run?
sucks :(

Thanks!I hope I can go there in 2 and half years. So right now I’m planning on applying to Mt. Sac. I have no clue on how things at community colleges goes. I’m like super confused. I’m a high school senior right now. I cant find any useful information on the mount sac website either. Did registration start already? I kinda want to take a summer class or two but have no clue on what to take, how hard it is to get a class. I want to get into the honors program but is that hard to get into? My goal right now is to be a pharmacist. I’m aiming for UCLA or US C.

You copied and pasted my post from 2 years ago? lol

lol :X no comment…

do you guys think its a bit late to apply for summer courses at mt sac? i want to take learn 81

Kind of late in the game now.

what about taking placement test to place in a higher class for fall semester?

They do placement rests quite often, call/or walk in and schedule an appointment.

@ vltord - I would say it is still possible, although really late into the game. I just checked, and it seems there are still quite a few spots open so you could try to add the class during the first week. As far as placement tests go, they have them in the assessment center all week, so schedule one ASAP. The only catch is you have to wait 3 months before you can retake the same test.
