Jet logic - are you set for Berkeley already?

Yep! I move up in 39 days!

i have a question: if i take a lower class for the first semester and in between semesters can i take another placement test to score into a higher class for the following semester?

does anyone know how fast classes fill up? reason being is i was planning to take an assessment for english on the 17th and calculus placement test 18th. after wandering around my portal, i went and tried to schedule an appointment. Everything was full for the entire week! wth! i remember calling the assessment center a few weeks ago and was told that i could walk in and sign up for a test and take that same day. priority registration is on the 19 and i have an english test scheduled on that day (results will be ready on the 23rd) and have the calc placement on the 26th (results will be ready in 24hrs). im really worried i wont have a chance to get into the class i want. what should i do?! should i call the assessment center just in case they have a spot open for that day? argh!! i’ve screwed up college even before it starts.

@vltord - The best classes usually fill up within the first few days, others should still have some open spots. If I were you I would contact the assessment center and see if they have any openings. The English placement test will probably be graded within 48 hours, and the math assessment you’ll find out about immediately.

My registration date is on July 26th, but I still haven’t taken my placement exams…I called Today to schedule an appointment to take my placement exams and I was told they were all booked for the month of July. I’ve been studying math very hard because I wanted to do good on the exam, that’s why I waited so long.

Are walk-ins welcomed? anyone know the date/time of the placement exams? what should I do?

Ugh…I’m so depressed right now.

yes in fact i just took an english test today and i was on the stand by test. you have to sign up on the day of the test. my registration date is supposedly july 19 since im part of connect 4 program. which math test will you be taking? im going to take the calc placement test. either tmr or thursday

@boxing543 - Don’t let other people control your fate. You need to physically go to the assessment center and request to take a test. I find it really hard to believe that this entire month is all booked up. Even if it were, there is always somebody who is going to cancel and spots start opening up. Just go. The worst that will happen is you don’t take the test, but at least you are attempting to better your future.

Hey guys,
I’m a biochem major who hopes to transfer in 1 year to UCLA. I have 32 credits from AP’s I’ve taken, so I figured that I could easily obtain the 60-70 units for transfer within a year. However, I looked at ASSIST, and based on what I read, I’d have to take around 30 units more worth of sciences classes, plus 14 units of random general ed’s that my AP’s didn’t fulfill. From the looks of it, I’ll be transferring to UCLA with 80+ units (is that possible?) or simply going to UCLA being way behind. What should I do?

@socal - im not too up to date with my information lately but i believe it is possible to transfer with 80+ units, assuming all of them are transferable. and you dont have to take all the GEs just to apply, but of course ull take them at UCLA instead

trying to get out within a year may be difficult you’ll have to get all ur classes and hope things run smoothly…and they usually dont for hard science majors.

if you can talk to linda diaz in the honors center when you can, she can def answer all your questions much better than i can :D

@socal… im a bio major hoping to get to UCLA… I took 9 AP tests with great scores on almost all of them. But my AP chem and AP bio score won’t work because you have to take the class at the college (mt. sac). This I am sure about because I’ve already met with linda and she is saying take
fall- chem 50h/bio 4h
spring- chem 51/ bio something
fall- chem 80/ bio something
spring- chem 81/ bio something
you get the idea. then transfer

this is assuming your APs arent relating to your major
you can transfer 60-70 units from mt. sac max, if the rest of the units are your APs i think its fine.

hi, I’m wondering if anybody knows if there are registration dates on saturdays or sundays

my appointment is this coming monday at 6 am, and I’m getting really nervous because the classes I need are filling up already :'c

SAY IT AIN’T SOOOO

@bbmantee - i would think there are. assume the worse and prepare for it :(

@Socal: You can definitely transfer out of Mt. SAC with 80+ units, it’s just that UC’s will accept a maximum of 70 units and then give you the subject credit for the classes whose units would go beyond that cap (as long as all of those units are accumulated at community colleges). I’m a science major myself and will end up transferring with 80+ transferrable units. Because of the number of classes that are required for these type of fields, this occurs pretty frequently.
I was actually in the same boat that you are currently in at this time last year. I knew I had both the required number of units and the grades to transfer out, but ended up deciding to stay another year because I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford to finish my lower division classes at the transfer school. If I were you, I’d go ahead and go about my business as though I would be transferring out, which would mean taking a full load of classes every semester and applying to the schools that I wanted to go to, and then decide whether it’s a good idea to transfer out once I get responses from those schools.
Don’t worry about it too much though, you have plenty of time to decide.

Question… How the heck do we get a decent registration date? My date isn’t until tomorrow and most all the classes I need are already full. Forget about Chem 40, every class was filled up by the second day!!!

Luck!

Or honors, student athlete, or disabled student

I am in honors, we don’t have priority registration. At least that’s what I’ve read and heard.

when is the normal registration for all mt sac students?

@whitelabellt: Your registration date improves as you accumulate units, so just sign up for as many classes as you think that you can handle at a time. What classes did you want anyway?
