Official Northwestern class of 2017 RD thread

I might be a CogSci major too, but right now I’m bio. I like Hinman, and I’m a musician. Icepulse, are you my evil twin?

I like Hinman because food, c-store, suites, south campus, close to lake, close to Evanston, and I’ve heard it’s pretty nice (but kind of small). I’ve got a better chance than most at it, though, because I’m going to apply for substance-free, and possibly inter-faith. I REALLY want to be at Hinman, in case you can’t tell  I’m not worried about getting Hinman a second time, though, because I will probably apply to be a CA, or try for Seabury anyway.

UGH. Sooooooooooo disappointed in my D’s FA from Northwestern. With this package there is no way she will be able to attend and it is her dream school. They expect us to pay about 2.5 times our EFC. I knew it wouldn’t be fantastic, but I really didn’t expect this. So very sad. Is there anything we can do?

rishav17,my daughter started out in Comm, lived in Willard, but then went into engineering in her sophomore year. She has lived all three years on the southern end of the campus (Willard, sorority, apartment), and can’t stand hiking back and forth between Tech and home. Next year she will be in a house up near Noyes, and she is ecstatic about not having to go back and forth for her senior year.

@skewlcounselor - Call up the FA office and talk things over? I think there is an appeals process of some kind.

Now I’m worried that I won’t be getting enough aid either!! :o

@crimsonstained, maybeee. :stuck_out_tongue:
What instrument do you play? Violinist here.

And right now I guess I’m pretty open-minded to any housing on south campus- it just seems like the better place for me in terms of convenience and my individual interests. All of this insight into Hinman is really drawing me to it though!

On that article rishav posted by the Daily Northwestern, it looks like we won’t be able to choose specific halls though?
I don’t know if they only did that for the class of 2016 or if that’ll extend over to us, too?

I play piano; classical, jazz, and keys at my church.

I think that the benefit of a dining hall cannot be understated, especially in colder climates. I read a review that said something like, “It’s nice to walk to breakfast in shorts and flip-flops when it’s snowing outside.” The only two I would really ever want are Allison or Hinman, but I like the suite style of Hinman.

I think it’s a new thing as of 2016 that you pick what campus (N vs S), your gender, whether you want co-ed, and size, or something like that. You can also apply to a residential college, special interest, or residential community in the application, and you write a little paragraph about why you’re applying for it. I may have that wrong though, but I’m pretty sure that’s the new system.

^ Something like that. In the new system, it asks you for your preferences and stuff and then you need to put down your top 5 choices. If you’re applying to a RC, then you need to write about how you can add to the atmosphere at that specific RC and why you want to be a part of it(almost another admissions process! Haha!!).

Dining halls are a top priority for me. :D

@EnoughAlready - Hmm… So then I have to start looking at North Campus.

Anyone know the advantages of North Campus over South Campus?? [Other than proximity to frat houses].

Aaaaaaaaggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I’m already groaning at the work I’ll have to do writing some sort of essay about how I could contribute to Allison ja;sdkf why did they do this lololol…

$47K/year in grants! YES! Officially gonna be a Wildcat next year!

Oh and somebody mentioned earlier that there was an admitted student NU Facebook group. Where is it?

@kaydsosa congrats! I hope I get enough money too. (:

Thanks, icepulse! Here’s the link to the official group. They’re letting people in slowly. Maybe they’re only accepting requests from people who have committed? IDK.

To those who are not happy with their financial aid, you can always visit FA office in person, talk to the officer assigned to your case and present all the documents to augment your case. Trust me, it works…I know many cases where the necessary adjustments were made. Good Luck!

My financial aid package is awesome! I didn’t expect it to be that good (no loans). It’s gonna make it an even tougher decision…

For the Facebook group, I think they might be letting people in slowly because they’re checking to see if the people who request to join have actually been accepted (so people who changed their name on Facebook would have a hard time, presumably).

We haven’t received the admission packet yet in the mail… Is that where we find out how to log on and check Financial Aid awards? Anyone else not get the packet yet?

@newMIparent, yeah! it gave instructions to set up the normal accepted-to-college stuff (email account, financial account, etc.)

I was admitted into the School of Communications and I’m starting to look at housing options… does anyone know what percentage of SoC students are in the Communications Residential College?

I think I want to be in a residential college in the south end of campus, so I’m also looking at Willard and Shepard.

^ I am also planning to go into the Communications Residential College.

@endlessroad are you looking at any other residential colleges or dorms?

^ maybe Willard and Shepard or the North Campus
