@SaphireNY @Questsnow it’s unlikely, but it does happen. it’s happens typically at private/prep schools which are feeders for top schools. While this doesn’t exclude public schools, it would be unlikely at a public. But yeah some GCs are in the know, and obligated not to tell, because it helps build bonds with that school or is a personal favor when a GC and an AO know each other.
This is slightly different but after I got accepted, my GC was emailed. It’s uncomfortable to think that GCs could be buttered up. What if they try subconsciously to affect my decision?
@Questnow are you from IL? If you’re from around there there’s a higher chance since you’re local. If there’s a big school that lots of people apply to GCs could just be keeping tabs and find out from the college.
Just go to https://ugadmission.northwestern.edu/apply/status click on forgot password and you will be able to create an account. I just did that a few minutes ago and I was able to view my decision. Unfortunately I have been rejected… If you want me to post an image just explain me how to do that, because I do not know. The e-mail will probably come in the next 30-40 min
waitlisted! Thank god I already got into Pomona and Chicago so I really wasn’t considering Northwestern anymore… glad I didn’t take the spot of someone who really wanted it. Good luck to those who really want to go!!
I know for a fact that my counselor know a few days before decisions that I’d been deffered from my early school, he seemed to know something about another school I got into the week before I heard (called me to his office and asked where that school ranked in my list of schools, so maybe it was because that school is one of my favorites that he was able to advocate for me), knew about another school the day before it came out, and literally told me that “he knows things but of course couldn’t tell me anything.”
He has never actually told me anything for, I assume, a couple of reasons: part of talking to these adcoms is to crealte a relationship with the school (important for both sides - I assume my gc was told about my defferal to not have him discourage other people from applying)or to gauge whether the student will really go there. If he wants to remain credible and be able to help as many students as possible, he could never tell anyone anything before the fact. After everything I’ve learned, guidance counselor seems like one of the hardest jobs possible.
For the record, I do go to a small private school, though it’s definitely not at all an elite one. I assume I’m not some special case, because I’m really nothing special. I do think this has a lot to do with creating relationships with schools.
Also sorry if this isn’t so relevant to the conversation anymore. That took a while to tap out on my phone
