hey guys, does NU read applications as a group with other applicants from your school? is that how they group apps?
@toothpasteonface I’ve played piano 12 years, oboe 9 years, and percussion 4 years. Belonged to the same church all my life and heavily involved in services, special music, youth group, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible school, and volunteering with a lot of soup kitchen/food pantry/fair booth/craft fair type things. Academic team member four years, three years varsity and one year captain, national qualifiers this year. Mathletes co-founder and school winner twice, student of the month committee, pride commission. Four years of very intense marching band and percussion ensemble. HUDDLE member three years and commissioner one year, mentoring for kids not to do drugs. I volunteer teaching robotics and engineering to fifth grade girls for the science olympiad and at my local library. I’ve been a girl scout for ten years. Spring leadership ball honoree, we collect lots of food for the food insecure. NHS officer, as well. Tutor several kids, always ring bells for the Salvation Army. I also work three jobs to support my music, which is definitely most important. All my other music participation takes precedence; I’m in some of the best youth orchestras in the whole world and definitely my region, no music festivals (because of cost) but lots of masterclasses, national awards, etc.

My understanding of it is that they don’t explicitly compare you to your peers at your HS but that someone looks at them at the same time when they are trying to figure out your school in relation to other schools.

Thank you so much @ChicagoSportsFn! I’m so, so nervous. Mostly because if I get accepted to the school of music, but not arts and sciences, I can add on the second major easy. But if it’s the other way around… not so much. Here’s hoping!
