****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2020 Discussion Thread****

Hey guys! I just discovered this thread. I got accepted ED to Weinburg as an English major. Congrats to everyone who got in!

Does anyone know when we can get the mail with formal acceptance letter? Has it been mailed yet?

@LuckyCollegeGirl I believe they’ve sent them out. IIRC it takes anywhere from a couple of days to a week to arrive depending on where you live. Hoping they get to Michigan tomorrow so I can give my counselor a copy before we go on holiday break

Thank you @WondrousWildcat !

@topclever If you got into NU, you got into Michigan. Withdraw your application. Go 'Cats!

@topclever I agree with @CaliCash . Your ED acceptance to Northwestern is binding unless the financial aid is insufficient (and that is almost never the case with NU. They are extremely generous.) Its unconscionable to not withdraw your application from other institutions and I’m surprised your GC wouldn’t implore you to act immediately. Where my children attended HS, Guidance requires they come in as soon as they’ve been accepted ED to withdraw applications in front of a GC.

How tough is it to get in RD? I was deferred by my SCEA school (Princeton) yesterday. For reference my SAT is 2350, gpa slightly below 4.0, I’ve taken 13 APs, and have one or two decent ECs

@randomsguy RD is going to be hard. They take about half of their class in early, which leaves roughly 20K people applying for 1K spots in the class (if I am correct). Account for yield, and maybe the acceptance rate is around 8%. However, you seem extremely qualified, and I would guess you have a decent chance.

@dennis052798 Thanks for the advice. I never expected admissions to be this cutthroat

Anyone find an article w/ the stats for this year’s early decision acceptance numbers and such?

If I didn’t apply for financial aid already am I screwed or do I still have options?

Hi all! My name is Jarrett and I’m applying RD to Northwestern University after being deferred from Penn ED. I am applying to the Weinburg College of Arts and Sciences as a philosophy major (with a possible double major in history). To those of you who were accepted, congrats! To those deferred and those applying RD, good luck!

Also, how do interviews work at Northwestern? Do you request them? Assuming I apply a day or two before the deadline, should I expect to receive an interview? Do they contact you? And is it necessary to request an interview?

Hi! I applied RD to Northwestern as a Communications major! I have a 2260 SAT 710 Math2 and 750 USHistory, 3.89 UW and 4.42 W, top 5% of class, great letters of rec, leadership position in 6 different activities, plus two part-time jobs (manager at one), 3 year variety athlete and captain senior year. I know everyone applying is very qualified, so I know that my chances are probably slim, does anyone know the RD acceptance rate?

@layla2016 If your essays are good, and I mean remarkable, you probably have a good chance of getting in RD. I got in ED with 2310 SAT, 790 Math2 720 USHistory, 4.39 W. Decent extra circulars, no sports, some leadership positions and two jobs including my own vending machine business. Double legacy, with some (if I do say so myself) incredibly strong essays. Essays matter a lot to NU, and I put probably 10-12 hours working and reworking my NU essay and Common App essay. RD acceptance rate will likely be 7-9 percent.

Okay, thanks a lot @LopsidedPasta ! My essays are (if I do say so myself) very good, I’ve put a lot of time and thought into them. Plus my mom’s friend from high school edits essays for a company that helps kids apply to college so she has edited and approved them too! I will just have to hope for the best!

I hope it works out for you @layla2016

Hey guys! Just popping in to say I was accepted into UChicago EA and I will not actually be applying to Northwestern RD. Good luck to those who are applying, and remember, regardless of what happens, you are all smart people and will end up somewhere great!

@layla2016 which company does your mom’s friend work for if you don’t mind? I’m actually looking for someone to go over my essays for other schools too! Good luck to you as well

Does anyone here know if a 640 in Biology M would be worth sending? I’m applying RD and my GPA is below average for NU. I have a lot of extra-curricular activities, a handful of leadership positions, 11 AP classes and multiple honors classes. Even though I’m very involved, I think my GPA is going to really lower my already slim chances of getting in, so I’m looking for any chance to strengthen my app. Thanks in advance!

How likely for me to get into McCormick? 4.0 UW GPA, 10 APs and more honors (6 5s, 4 taking this year), 2320 SAT (720 CR, 800 M and W), 800 Math 2 SAT, 800 Chem SAT 2, leadership in a few ECs, research experience?
