Acceptance letter:

Dear Dominic:

Congratulations and welcome to the Class of 2020 at Northwestern University! On behalf of the Northwestern faculty, students, and alumni, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that you have been admitted to the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

The admission committee evaluates tens of thousands of applications each year, and your considerable academic achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and impressive character stood out as truly exceptional. You will be joining a vibrant community of engaged faculty, students with diverse talents and backgrounds, and spirited alumni.

Northwestern will immerse you in an environment with limitless possibilities to learn, make a difference, and define your path for future success. We are confident that you will make a significant contribution to the life of the University, both in and out of the classroom.

I hope you have the opportunity to visit campus over the coming weeks. Our admitted student program, Wildcat Days, will give you the chance to meet faculty, advisors, current students, and your future classmates. You will also be welcome to attend classes and tour campus facilities. Details about Wildcat Days, as well as other important information for admitted students, can be found online at admit.northwestern.edu.

In the next few days via mail, you will receive an official copy of your decision letter and materials that outline steps toward enrolling in the Class of 2020. If you plan to accept your place in the incoming class, we need to know by May 1. Please note, our offer of admission is contingent upon the successful completion of your senior year and a review of your final transcript.

It is our good fortune that you chose to apply to Northwestern, and I look forward to welcoming you to campus next fall. The years you spend here will be among the most memorable of your life.

Sincerely,

Christopher Watson
Dean of Undergraduate Admission

Waitlisted… How many does NU waitlist? I don’t see anyone else here who was waitlisted

Waitlisted  . I can’t believe how few people were waitlisted, especially in contrast to UChicago (I was waitlisted there as well).

Here’s the letter:
The admission committee has completed its evaluation of your application and at this time we are unable to offer you a place in Northwestern University’s first-year class. However, we would like to offer you a space on our waitlist in the event that we make additional offers of admission after May 1.

This year, we received approximately 35,000 applications for an entering class of 1,925. Given the relatively small size of the incoming class and the strength of the applicant pool, we cannot admit all of the qualified applicants who apply to Northwestern.

Despite what may be disappointing news at this point in time, I hope you will consider our waitlist offer. If you would like to be placed on the waitlist, please complete the online waitlist reply card, linked to this letter, by May 1. We hope to notify candidates on the waitlist of a final decision by June 30.

Candidates who choose to be on the waitlist are not ranked. Should space become available, each applicant will be considered individually as we match candidates with our openings. It is impossible to predict how many spots may become available. In recent years, the number of admission offers made from the waitlist has ranged from 0 to 100. While we do not encourage the submission of additional materials, we do welcome any new academic information.

If you choose to remain on the waitlist, I encourage you to accept an offer of admission from another college by May 1. Whatever our final decision or yours may be, I thank you for your interest in Northwestern University. With your outstanding abilities and accomplishments, I know you will make meaningful contributions and find rewarding experiences throughout your educational career.

@chancethisanon I applied as a general engineering major. I was going to switch to Physics. I forgot to mention in my CC post that I have also had a research position at NASA.
