** Official Northwestern Class of 2021 Discussion Thread **

@scolton99 that would be helpful indeed - it will be interesting to read your insights. Thank you!

Does anybody have (updated) information on how many students were deferred? And if so, what do y’all think a deferred students’ chances are? Thanks, and good luck to everybody!

Is anybody else having trouble creating their @u.northwestern e-mail? I keep getting a message saying “An error has occurred while processing your request.”

@kitts95 I don’t know exact numbers, but NU defers a super small percent of applicants and I heard that a majority (or maybe half) of them get in

I know in past years in been like 2-4%. I believe it’s mainly for senior grades or at least it seemed like it in the letter. There’s still hope, but it’s just what you do now. :slight_smile:

Yo just a heads up financial aid got posted (at least for me)

I already go to Northwestern but I was asking for my brother! he was deferred this cycle so we’re hoping there is still a fighting chance. thanks everybody, and good luck to all those deferred :smiley:

I only have to pay 4K a year. Heck yea!

Is anyone else’s financial aid package not matching what you thought it was? They have me paying double what the calculator said I would pay.

Does anyone know if the financial aid package includes money from fafsa?

Deferred :confused:

I am a father of 2 recent NU alums - so CONGRATULATIONS to all recent applicants and ED admits, .
Whether at NU or other school, life will go on and you will do fine - if you were smart enough to even try to get into NU - you will do great at any other school too.

@asr2017 - The Award Letter spells out how much you receive from NU for room, board and tuition (Grant Money). It will also indicate how much - if any - your family will be expected to pay or borrow in order for you to attend. The FAFSA is an indicator only of how much the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) will be. You do NOT “get money from fafsa”. However, the FAFSA is not the final word - NU also has you fill out a College Board Questionnaire in addition to the FAFSA, which gives NU a much better look at your family financial situation.

You can also appeal any NU award if the numbers are not what you expected. This can be the result of a change in family earnings (laid off from a job for example), or other special circumstance. NU is pretty good at reviewing and adapting to special circumstances. Good Luck!

@nugraddad Hi! Thank you for the kind words! Just wondering, how can we appeal an award?

@jaecha - NU website http://undergradaid.northwestern.edu/eligibility-and-policies/appeal-an-aid-decision.html

@nugraddad do any of your kids/relatives go to Medill?

@EKolin - No - I have 2 McCormick kids.

did anyone submit a research abstract? i can’t tell if it’s allowed or not…

anyone get an interview yet for rd, they said they coming out end of the week

I got an email yesterday that interviews are happening in my area and signed up for an interview. No word yet on if I got on, as it is first-come-first-serve.
