hi may i ask u a question? normally, when does the nu notify applicants? btw, is there an application status check website?

Me too, I’m applying! I was going to apply USC this Feb., but I was too discouraged after my grades came in during winter break. I got a C in Cal 1, so that tanked my GPA. I don’t know why in God’s name I am deciding to apply to an even more competitive school; I guess I’m just feeling brave lol. Anyway, my stats aren’t that great, so I’m not banking on NU, but maybe I’ll be part of the few who gets in with “sub-par” stats, lol.

HS Stats:

HS GPA: Horrible, will not even mention. But I did do a lot of AP classes. I explained to them in my first essay why my GPA sucked-- pure laziness, tbh.
SAT/ ACT: 1800, 27 (I know, not so good)
EC’S: President of Model UN, VP of my school’s H4H, volunteer, more I can’t remember

College Stats:

Classification: Rising sophomore
College GPA: Winter–3.385 (14 credits: All A’s and 1 C) Spring (expected): 3.6-3.78 (18 credits, mainly intro classes w/ 1 upper level Psyc class)
EC’s: MVP volunteer, Hallyu wave club member, Psychology club member, AMSA member
Recs: Only got 1 from my Stats professor, she’s the only one I really know. Didn’t want to get a bunch of generic ones
Essays: Done with the CommonApp one, working on the NU supplement one
Other: I’m applying to my state school, UT also. Would love to go there to, tbh

Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, meaning when ever your application is complete (after May 1st), they will start reviewing your app and make a decision and send it to you.

They won’t review any apps until May 1st, though. If you’re just an outstanding applicant, you may find out within a week or two of completing your application, I’d say. I’m not expecting to hear anything until June/July since my grades are kind of weak for NU

Did someone else get an email about their application being “complete and under review”? I got this last thursday but I thought they said that they wouldn’t start reviewing applications until the May 1st deadline passed… right?

@ YalieGirl:

Hmm, that’s what I thought too. Anyways, I haven’t submitted my application, so I haven’t got an email.

YalieGirl, I also got the e-mail, though it was more like two weeks ago for me.

Hey do any of you guys know if it is harder to transfer from a community college honors program than a 4 year. Are they less likely to accept you?

This question has been bugging me!

Oh yeah and I’m applying as a communications major if that changes anything.

@mattymark: Well the fact that you’re doing an honors program at community college really helps. It really depends on your GPA, really.

Oh ok that’s good to hear! ThAnks clueless!

I am applying for Fall quarter…but it seems that @anontransfer has a point that it is easier to stand out among the few applicants.

What is everyone’s current stats/ hs stats? I am very worried, being that I received a low ACT score.

my act score was a 24 but im planning to enroll as a junior transfer in 2014.

Can you retake the act/sat for Northwestern?

^ yes

10char

@mattymark YES! I did not realize I could have while at a community college (I am at sophomore standing). Now, it is too late for me to do so. So YES! Definitely retake it. They only look at the best score. I wish I had known that last year!

ok thanks dqjcr4 and chicagolak23! So i can take at at communiy college cool!

@chicagolak23 why cant you take as a sophmore?

@mattymark Yes you can, but I would do it sooner than later.

I can no longer take it because the deadline for NU is in TWO weeks. I would have needed to take it earlier this year or last year to have my scores submitted in time.

Is anyone else stressing over the NU app due in two weeks?!

Hmm, I would say don’t waste your time retaking the SAT/ ACT becuase your score probably isn’t going to get much higher, that’s just the way it is. You tend to make around the same scores on those tests. Take it from me, I had to learn the hard way.

The best thing for you to do is focus on your college GPA. They want to see how you’re doing now. And they will really be impressed with the progress you’ve made since high school; positive trends always look really good.

@ chicagolak23: Umm, not really stressing. Maybe I will once the waiting game begins, but other than that, nope, not stressing. All I know is that I’ve done my best this year, and if I don’t get in this time, well better luck next time around. I’m already preparing to spend another semester at y current instution (signed up for Fall 2012 classes and submitted financial aid items).

My hope isn’t hinging on NU because it’s more than likely I won’t get in, but I’m prepared to apply again next semester if I have to.

Try not to get too stressed about it.

@CluelessBelle oh ok but that was the first and only time i took the act so should i still take it or no?
Thanks!

@CluelessBelle Are you a current student at NU? Or perhaps a prospective student?

And as far as my current grades, I have done very well, 3.9 GPA. I am involved in my school’s newspaper, Treasure for the Activities Board, involved in the volunteer program, as well as am a member of Phi Theta Kappa (Honors).

I also graduated from my HS in the top 10th percentile of my class and an Illinois State Scholar. So I have done well throughout my years, however, my ACT is a 22. I know NU strongly takes standardized tests into consideration. This is a serious concern of mine and almost making me not go forward with the app, even though I have come this far in the application process.
