paradise, don’t listen to 2VU0609. Your app is way over Vandy’s range and is far beyond “good”. When I read your stats I was thinking more like Ivy League or similar schools like MIT, Stanford, etc…They obviously thought you were using them as a back-up. If you’re interested in going to a better college, you can always keep your grades high this next year (plus keep up the EC’s) and see about transferring. I would actually try to aim higher than Vanderbilt, but if you’re set on it then I’m sure they won’t reject you if you try to transfer in; most likely they’ll realize you aren’t just using them as a back-up

Thanks for the advice everyone! I really do appreciate it! I’ve applied to Vandy (rejected), WashU (wait-listed), University of Tulsa (accepted), and Truman State University (accepted). I have to make a decision between TU and Truman, but I don’t know which school would be better. I’m wanting to double major…Political Science and Chemistry. Any suggestions?

They obviously did not reject Paradise because they felt she was using Vanderbilt as a back-up. If they did, they would have wait-listed her. Please use your heads. Secondly, statistics don’t make a candidate. Although I am curious Paradise when/what work did you do with Dr. Swain and when did you work and what did you do with Sokolosky at his firm? Why did you apply to a random school in Oklahoma and Missouri and not to any schools in your home state? That doesn’t make any sense…

I didn’t work with Dr. Swain, I said i wanted to work with Swain. I’ve read her books…and Vanderbilt will give me the oppurtunity to work with her, learn from her. We have a house in Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, and Florida. I don’t want to go t KU or KU like everyone one else, how does that make any sense? And, TU is close to my second home, make enough sense for you? I worked during the summer at the law firm, my father happened to be good friends with Sokolosky. Heard i was interested in law/politics, so he gave me an opportunity, is that so awful? Most certainly not…not really all that serious it was just for the experience. I got to shadow and have a 1 one 1 experience. Umm, btw, TU is not random, and neither is Truman. They’re both known schools (TU - U.S. News ranking: National Universities, 88 and Truman - U.S. News ranking: Universities–Master’s (Midwest), 8). Obviously, you don’t make any sense…

Paradise, although I am a bit confounded by your rejection, I cannot help but side with wanderers in his inquisition. The inconsistencies of your posts alone lead me to question the validity of your statements.

No. You claim you are “studying” with Swain in your first post on this thread, which clearly insinuates that you are currently working with her. But, in your most recent post, you say that in fact you didn’t work with her.

My apologies to your rejection, but maybe if you were a bit more straight forward and clear, readers would be able to distinguish why you were not admitted to Vanderbilt.

You must have had a pretty busy summer in 2006 in order to do Sunflower Girls State, JSA, LeadAmerica, work at Sokolosky’s Law Firm, and do NCCC(summer?). You must be thinking really “loopy” to make a second error and not know that 770CR, 800M, and 800W don’t add up to 2380. Sorry for my confusion regarding UKansas since in one post you you stated you were accepted and one where you “neglected” to mention your acceptance. You don’t have to worry about me insinuating that you’re lying about any of this because personally, I don’t care enough to do so and I don’t care if you did or didn’t. “Competitive” students are rejected all the time(I’ve known academically accomplished applicants with 35’s who were rejected in previous years) and it doesn’t matter why you were rejected anymore because trying to “find out” won’t change anything. The book is already closed. However, those two(or is it 3?) schools are interesting choices when you consider that they have relatively “non-competitive” admissions in comparison to WUSTL and Vanderbilt. Considering how supposedly proactive and involved you were throughout high school and were aware of both nationally competitive programs(JSA) and the USNEWS rankings, at least it’s fair to assume you were well aware of a lot of the other good schools available in the U.S. You’re right that they’re not random and they make perfect sense since you must have clearly put in much more effort into researching schools than in refuting my statements with USNEWS rankings. So what we have left now are the schools you meticulously researched and thus chose to apply: Truman State and Tulsa. Congratulations on being accepted at those schools and best of luck to you at either one.

Is there a really a need to be mean or judgemental here? No matter if Paradise’s rejection was a mistake or not, she’s hurting from it after clearly working her butt off for 4 years just like the rest of you have. I’ve been there and there’s NO need to rub salt in the wound.
