Official RD Decisions 2006

Decision: Rejected - Weinberg

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: None
[] SAT IIs: None
[] GPA: 3.9UW (school doesn’t weight)
[] Rank:top 14%
[li] Other stats: ACT was a 26, probably what got me rejected. Upon graduation, 3.5 APs. 4 on AP Microeconomics, still have to take AP Spanish, AP English, tests.
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Pretty Good
[] Teacher Recs: Amazing
[] Counselor Rec: Amazing
[] Hook (if any): Scientist-Musician?

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Michigan
[] School Type: Medium Public (~800 students)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male

[/ul]**Other Factors: **Very involved in school musical programs, plays, and marching band, played in symphonic band and was first chair in two instruments, played football, did summer program in physics, NHS committee member

**General Comments: **I’m not in calculus, but I’m doing an independent study in it, but that probably didn’t help me out any. Also, I was taking AP Physics online and my school ran out of money to pay for the second semester of it, after I got an A in first semester, so that probably didn’t help my case any either. The school notified all the colleges I applied to, but still it probably didn’t help. I was planning on majoring in Astronomy, but it looks like I’ll be doing that at Michigan now, still disappointed.

Decision: Accepted- School of COmmunications, major in Theatre :)

Stats:
SAT: 2170- 800 M 690 V 680 W
SAT IIs: 750 Math2, 660 SPanish
GPA: 99.6
Rank:15/492
Other stats: ACT- 34 (34 M, 34 R, 34 W, 35 S, 12 essay)

Subjective:
Essays: I was really proud of myself, for whatever that’s worth. i think it made my mom cry, but she cries during bambi… so yea, i thought they were really well done.
Teacher Recs: i know my drama teacher’s was amazing, and i’m assuming my ap lang teacher’s was too, but i don’t know for sure
Counselor Rec: probably really amazing, that’s what she said, but again, i didn’t see it
Hook (if any): lots of theatre experience, internship at premiere theatre of the southeast, lots of volunteer work, particularly with disabled children- i want a graduate degree in theatre or music therapy, want to (after performing) eventually teach or use theatre to help those kind of children.

Location/Person:
State or Country: GA
School Type: REALLY BIG Public (~2500)
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female

Other Factors: Very involved in drama, and in other clubs at school, 12 years of piano, voice lessons, etc… two summer programs in theatre- one at BU, then NHSI with MT extension

General Comments: really excited about this, nu was pretty high on my list. if i go there, obviously i want to major in theatre, and i want to audition for the MT certificate after freshman year, i know that its really possible to do both of those and still double major, so im hoping for a degree in anthropology too, but who knows?

oh wow, the last person who posted is a lot like me!

Decision: Accepted, School of Communication, Theater major

Stats:

SAT: 2240 (800CR/740W/700M)

SAT IIs: 700 Bio (M), 760 US History, 710 Math 2C

GPA: 4.6 weighted

Rank: My school doesnt rank…

Other stats: AP scholar w/ distinction, VP of a nationally ranked theater program and TONS of theater, girls state, lotsa extra curriculars in general

Subjective:

Essays: I wrote them in a day. I think they were decent but not my best effort

Teacher Recs: havent seen them, but id assume excellent

Counselor Rec: awesome, she read it to me

Hook (if any):

Location/Person:

State or Country: Greenwich, Connecticut

School Type: HUGE, competitive public school

Ethnicity: caucasion

Gender: Female

Other Factors: Sent in a vocal CD with an operatic selection and a MT selection. Also sent in an extensive theater resume
General Comments: I REALLY like the theater program at northwestern…my only issue is that id get a BFA instead of a BA. Hopefully i’d be able to double major in something of the political nature, but we’ll see. So far, its between this and Wash U. We’ll see wut else later today!

I thought northwestern only offered a BA in theatre

Decision: Rejected-Weinberg

Stats:

SAT:2150

SAT IIs:710 Literature, 700 Biology

GPA:3.4

Rank:N/A

Other stats: I got a 4 on AP Bio, the only AP test I’ve taken. 6 APs this semester, so my schedule is pretty tough

Subjective: I don’t want to quantify myself in this area, since my self-perception is skewed towards the positive.

Location/Person:

State or Country: Indianapolis, IN

School Type: Very large public HS

Ethnicity: Black

Gender: Male

Other Factors: Not many, competed nationally in a science organization twice during high school, and also won a poker tournament, not stellar.
General Comments: Anxious. I didn’t plan on attending NU in any case, but being rejected makes me really worried about USC, who I’m still waiting on. I think USC is a lot pickier about a student’s GPA, which is one of my weak points.

northwestern actually offers a BS (bachelor of sciences) in theatre. i know bc id rather have the bfa, but i loved nus program

accepted…wating on tonite to make my decision but nu is very high on my list

[] Why I think I was accepted/rejected/waitlisted: National poetry, piano, and Latin awards. Dean’s list, all my classes are AP, etc. Everyone has great stats. I was lucky!
[] Other thoughts: so excited! the college process is very vicious and random, so not one person who didn’t get in to NU should be dissapointed. there are so many great schools out there, and I really wish the best of luck to you all![/ul]

Decision: Waitlisted (Weinberg)

Stats:[ul]

[/ul]Other Factors: NHS, Math Club, Model UN, Passport to Education (Italy, Greece), and Quiz Team. Deans List @ Kent State University…
General Comments: Well, I don’t know why some of you who posted previously got rejected and I still got waitlisted. My stats aren’t that great, so maybe it was my essays? Anyway, I don’t really know what to do about the waitlist… if I get accepted, am I bound to the university as if I had signed an intent to enroll somewhere else? :/

Other stats:

Essays:Pretty good, i worked hard on them
Teacher Recs: Really good. Im really close to my teachers and they love me!
Counselor Rec: Pretty generic, she doesn’t really take the time to get to know the students, but I am pretty well known amongst my school faculty.
Hook (if any):URM (African American) and Debater

State or Country: New York City
School Type:Small Public/ not competitive
Ethnicity:Black
Gender: Male

Other Factors
General Comments: This just goes to show you that you dont need great SAT scores to get into really competiive schools. My scores are really average, but I was determined to get into NU and some other schools. I also got into Georegtown after being deferred, Brandeis, and Fordham. I got waitlisted at Columbia and Dartmouth and I got a guaranted transfer from Cornell ( so i can go next year if i wanna.) Now im waiting on Emory (my #1 choice.) Congtas to everyone else that got in and good luck to everyone else…i am living proof that scores arent everything.

No offense, but you’re acceptance doesnt prove much to most fo the people. You’re ethnicity status boosted you alot. This onyl goes to show the effets of affirmative action.

Let’s just all be happy we got accepted and not try to put other people down…You’re going to offend anyone if you start off with “No offense…but” so don’t even bother saying it…
