Did you get an interview for HPME?

if you get an interview, you’ll be notified by email in late March or early April, after regular decision decisions have gone out.

if you get accepted, you’ll get a phone call from the Dean of Admissions at Baylor =]

hey, do you think there’s a shot at getting to the interview stage of the R-B program for someone who has not done volunteering in a hospital if they have strong essays showing a distinct commitment to medicine and are currently taking a specialized concurrent enrollment course for Anatomy/Physiology with Cadaver Labs? [I was accepted ED to Rice] Or does no volunteering=no go?

It’s definitely not black-and-white like that. I would say it’s important to have at least some experience working with patients…I never did normal hospital volunteer work. However, I did shadow my doctor for about two years (2 summers and a full school year) and accompanied her on patient visits, etc. I also did a study dealing with Parkinson’s patients in a local neurological clinic.

There’s no formula really…it just matters how much you took advantages of the resources available to you, and how much demonstrated interest in medicine you have.

R/B is late in giving interviews/offers( late Mar, April). It is only for those who are sitting on offers and hoping to hop on R/B for better fin aid or prestige or w/e. They can afford to cuz they have very high calibre cancidates. I heard ppl who turned down HSB to go R/B with full ride. Most would be v happy with BU,HPME,Brown,P/Jefferson,etc and happy with many others. They are all tough. It’s a drag to interview, stress it out, and change heart to R/B if there are other offers b4 April already–that’s my view.

also, rice/baylor is definitely one of the best programs out there. much less expensive than any other programs (med school tuition is only 15000/year!) and it gives amazing residencies - better than even bu, brown, jefferson, and hpme. but, imo, if you excel and are in a good enough med school, youll get into any residency program you want. for example, a graduate from drexel med school went to cleveland clinic for neurosurgery last year, meaning they declined a lot of applicants there from the top med schools around the country

When should we know? If I got an interview for Northwestern HPME, do you think it is likely I will get an interview for Rice/Baylor?

Before you can get a Baylor interview you need to get accepted to rice. You will find out about Rice around April 1. If you make it in to Rice (about 2/3 of RB applicants do not) your application will be sent to Baylor and you may get an interview.

when should we hear?

Rice decisions are out by e-mail.

You can also check to see how much money you got via the Ester account.

Question 1:
Are R/B interview notifications going to be posted on Esther, or will they be sent via e-mail, or both?

Question 2:
Where will the interview take place? Will it only be an on-campus thing, or are we able to do it in our area?

Question 3:
Is it true that the acceptance rate is about 1.5%? lol 'cause that’s tank

They will be sent via email. Nothing will be on ESTHER.

You have to physically go to Baylor College of Medicine. However, they schedule it literally the morning after Owl Days, so you will likely be in Houston already. They provide transportation from Rice to Baylor (like a five-minute drive).

no idea. They generally don’t publish it. I can tell you that about 50 people got interviews and 13 were selected for the program last year.

So who got the interview? Wanna make a separate thread for it?

Ah dang, I got my email on March 30th, I wasn’t picked for the interview. Oh well.

There’s 13 slots for the program…good luck to the 40 who made it so far!

So uh…did any of you people actually get in!!!

Do you know what do they ask in the interview for rice/Baylor?

Any current people in the Rice/baylor medical scholar program have any tips?
