Official SAT Math 2 Thread (May 2014)

for all of you who got 800 and used Barrons, what did you get on Barron’s practice tests?

@realchk I got an 800 on the real thing, but I only scored low to mid 700s to high 600s on Barron’s.

@realchk‌ I also got an 800, but scored 720-760 on the practice tests

i got an 800…am i crazy for feeling like there is a glitch in the system and i didn’t actually get an 800??

@needagoodscore: Yeah, pretty much.

800 as well! I used barrons

Wow, 8 skipped and still an 800? (based on a previous poster)

Congratulations to all with a perfect score, but a 42/50 is way too low imho.

An 8 question curve isn’t exactly uncommon. Most SAT Math II curves fall between 6-8 question curves, with 8 signifying a harder test. Here is Sparknote’s Math II curve table, which gives a general idea of what score to expect based off a raw score. <a href=“SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides”>SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides;

Hey guys i just checked my score report and it says i got a percentile of 83! 83 percentile for an 800???
THAT’S WAY TOO LOW!

Is it possible to get a 800 without a graphing calculator? :(

Are there questions you can’t answer unless you have a graphing calculator?

Yes @IvyHopeful , on my test there was only one question on which you HAD to have a graphing calculator.
It dealt with setting up a linear regression. You could have done by guessing and eliminating answer choices though. I believe it is very possible to get an 800 without a graphing calculator. I dont remember using mine on the test (besides basic scientific calculations) except on this question and maybe i used it once to double check on a question which asks you where does this expression intersect blah blah. And i got an 800. Even my friend had not used one and he got an 800! So dont worry! But if you can maybe borrow from someone, i would definitely use it!
:)

It’s going to be a LOT harder though.

Considering I’ve never used one before, I don’t think I’ll be able to learn how to use one in 5 days so I’m just hoping I don’t need one for the June 7th test. Fingers crossed.

Son got a 710 previously, he’s very happy he got an 800 in May. None left blank.

You’re definitely going to need one, but there aren’t many that it’s absolutely necessary for. Sure makes things a million times easier, though, especially statistics.

I wouldn’t recommend solving standard deviation of a set with more than ten numbers by hand. That would not be fun.
