Everyone in my room thought that “had begun” was incorrect.

WE NEED TO RESOLVE THIS DISPUTE REAL QUICK TO PUT OUR MINDS AT PEACE.

WAS IT D OR NO ERROR???

Everyone in my room thought that “had begun” was incorrect.

WE NEED TO RESOLVE THIS DISPUTE REAL QUICK TO PUT OUR MINDS AT PEACE.

WAS IT D OR NO ERROR???

I’m pretty sure it was No Error, because the “disintegrating” had begun to occur before they discovered the object.

I agree with foolonthehill.

I still think had begun is wrong.

Dude, I seriously think only “has begun”, “had began”, and “have begun” are the only gramatically correct variations.

EXAMPLE: The meteor shower has begun.
EXAMPLE: They have begun to assemble the troops.
EXAMPLE: It was already 9’o clock, but the members of the Papadoulis family had just began to arrive at the party.

If I’m wrong, how much do you guys think -2 wrong on the Writing would be???

Well, I could be wrong, so don’t take just my word on it, lol

I don’t think that “had began” is correct.

“The perfect tenses are created with the words has, had or have combined with a verb’s participial form (called past participle in the handbook) of the verb.”

And the past participial of “to begin” is “begun”

if anyone knows what the math curve for the psat normally looks like, what would my score be if i had 2 multiple choice wrong and everything else correct? also, what would it be if i had 2 multiple choice wrong, 1 grid-in wrong, and everything else correct? thanks

Began should never have a “had/has/have” before it.

I don’t know how reliable it is, but this site (A City Saved by a Volcano Class Grade 5 - 7th - Lesson Tutor) says that ‘had begun’ is the perfectly valid past perfect tense of begin. And since the past perfect tense is used to indicate that one action occurred before another action in the past, I agree with foolonthehill’s logic.

QUESTION:

Theres a party. At the party there is 1 pizza for every 3 people, 1 salad for every 6 people, and 1 cake for every 8 people. If the total number of pizzas, salads, and cakes is “n”, how many people were at the party?

(the answer choices were all fractions of “n”)

(sry if this was already discussed, i just didnt feel like looking through 24 pages)

^^^^ dude, they were talking about that for like half of the last page. ^^^^
http://ameri-cantraders.com/psc.jpg

“the killing had begun.”

case closed.

All this fuss about the ‘had begun’ question, and the triangle question.

My answers were No error for ‘had begun’… I’m pretty sure it works, and if you just say the sentence aloud, it makes sense.
The triangle coordinate thing was 18 for sure. Not 9.

Critical Reading raped me though. The sentence completions mostly.

That writing section with the bears… Someone previously wrote that they put D, where it said more dangerous… I think I put that because I thought it was comparing the bear/bears to every other animal, and it should be most…? Does anyone rmember the question word-for-word?

And was I the only one who put mortal for what vital means?

And does anyone remember, for the certificates question… I got x = 3, but I can’t remember if I marked 3 as my answer, or if I multiplied it by 2 to get 6 for the $3 tickets… I was wondering if anyone knows if 3 was a choice so I can know for sure if I got that right.

Overall, I thought Math and Writing were pretty easy.
Critical Reading… I almost ran out of time. Some parts of it were hard, especially the sentence completions for me… Gotta work on my vocab.

Did everyone have Form S who took it on 10/15?

Let’s say I got between 7-9 CR wrong, 1 Math wrong, and 2-3 W wrong… Can anyone guesstimate my score?
I was aiming for 218, which would qualify me as a semi-finalist in my state (NY)… I think I got a little bit below, though.

The certificate question was a Grid-in problem.
Also, about the bear problem: When I read the sentence, I got the impression that the comparison made only with the grizzly bear to the other type of bear. I didn’t think that it was comparing it to every other animal. Btw, I’m guessing that 2-3 W will be a 76 or 77, 1 M will be a 77, and 7 CR to be 65. This adds up to be arround 218/219.

Ehh, you guys are probably right about the “had begun” question. Anyway…

My WORST CASE scenario: 10 wrong in CR, perfect in Math, and maybe 4 wrong in Writing.

Considering the MI cutoff has been hovering around 210 for the last couple of years, do you guys think I will become NMSF???

You have a pretty good shot, the way I see it:
80 Math
73/74 Writing (5 wrong last year got me a 72)
So you would only need to get a 57 or 56 on CR.
Too bad the NJ cutoff has been 221 the last two years :(

16 wrong = ~208, and may even be higher if the errors were more in writing or cr than math. ^^^ gurlnextdoor, you’re cutting it close… but you have a chance.

i’m cutting it close too. arljfwelkfjwelkf

my test had an error in it I think.

for the grizzly bear question it said

“researchers who study black and grizzly bears”

it didn’t say bears after black…i was like…***?

uhh… i think that’s fine.

Hehe, all the problems you guys are having, my brother talked to me about. For the bears one, from what he told me, the answer should be E. They are comparing only 2 animals black bears and grizzly bears. One is MORE dangerous than the other.

theRGS - Its strange that the sentence was worded like that, but it is perfectly fine. The bears is implied after black in that sentence.
