Official September ACT Reading Thread

One of them had different colors listed

I forget which passage it was, but I think it was question 23 and I was really torn between two answers. Does anyone have any insight?

what was the question? the passage about grasshoppers?

why did the guy lick the chamaleon what was similar between them and other animals what was different about them. What type of passage was it

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. There was no passage about chameleons. The passage about grasshoppers mentioned that the scientist tasted a poisons grasshopper. He did that to compare the reaction that the lizard had, not because he wanted to try a new and unique method.

It was the third question on the third passage. Anyone remember it? I forget everything about the question but I was torn between two answers and spent like a minute on it.

The question was about why the author added it. Only the word contrast was in the answer. The scientists reaction confirmed the hypothesis. I think it was about showing scientists can be unorthodox…the color one was green.

Remember anything about the question?

I put the unique method bc other answer had “contrast” & the lizard & scientists reactions were both negative.

It was not “because it could show that scientists could be unorthodox”. This is an irrelevant piece of information. In the context of the passage, the author simply stated that the scientist ate the grasshopper. He didn’t place any emphasis on this event and wrote it as if it was an expected practice. The reason why the author added that the scientist tasted the grasshopper was to show the contrast between his reaction and the lizard’s reaction. Even if they ended up having the same reaction, it was still worthy of doing to find out if he would have the same reaction as the lizard.

Edit: IMO I reread this question many times and I’m confident that it wasn’t because of an unorthodox practice

But there was no contrast… It was essentially the same reaction

It was the same reaction, but I honestly really remember the specific wording of the question regarding the contrast part. It didn’t make sense to say unorthodox because the essay seemed formal and the bit about him tasting a grasshopper wasn’t in any way emphasized

The grasshopper one is unorthodox. 100% sure on that. Don’t try to force your wrong answers. Contrast would mean how they differed.

Can we go over the prose fiction passage

How am I trying to force a wrong answer? Saying unorthodox doesn’t make even logical sense in the context of the essay. What was the exact question and answer?

I agree… The unorthodox answe r is a little random…but that’s the best answer…there is no contrast…saying there is one is forcing a wrong answer…

The word “fabrication” most nearly mean?
