*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Btw, Big Kev, you can’t make judgments based off the 30 people here applying. It’s too small to be a true representative of the sample population.

Well to get our hopes up, lets brainstorm things that make the acceptance rate so low

-People with fee waivers just apply to just see if they get in even though they are way out of range

Lol, I like that ripemango. Wishful thinking for the win.

I think wishful thinking is going to be the only thing that gets me through the next month and a half.

Stanford Supplement - done.

Now, to fill out 9 other supplements… ■■■.

Washington U supplement… non existent!

Okay, please help me. I’m submitting my Stanford app today, but I’ve literally spent 20 minutes agonizing over lay/lie difference. Maybe this is a sign I shouldn’t be accepted but still…

HELP. Is it:
“Diversity laying under our noses”
or
“Diversity lying under our noses”
?!?!?!?!

I know it’s a minor detail, but it’s stressing me out. Thanks!

I think it’s ‘lying,’ but I don’t know the context. Are you personifying diversity, or is it just the general concept or quality of diversity?

I’m not personifying diversity, I meant to say “The diversity (laying/lying)…”

Then I’m pretty sure it’s lying. Any second opinions?

bananas, it’s “lying under our noses”, and here’s the rule. In the present tense, if you are describing what the object itself is doing, use “lie”. “Lay” in the present tense is used when someone or something is acting upon the object, such as “I’m going to lay the dishes on the table”.

And don’t feel too bad about this one; lots of people misuse it. E.g., Eric Clapton got it wrong in his song “Lay Down, Sally”–he meant “Lie Down, Sally”. ; )

Hmm…to take another Vicodin or not… The pain is saying yes, but the brain is saying no.

I’m ****ed that I’m missing out on at least 3 Halloween parties this weekend because of my damned wisdom teeth. At least I have CC to keep me sane (or maybe the opposite)?

Sent in my Stanford Application just now, what an absolute relief. All that work, shipped out.

Also got my SAT 2 scores back today, and got 2 800’s :smiley: Thank god.

Good luck man. Wish me luck too ;)

Does anyone know if Stanford cares when you submit it at all? I’m thinking of finally clicking “send” tomorrow, I’ve had my application done for a couple of days now. I’m just nervous that I’ll notice some mistake at the last minute and not catch it lol.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US
though not to anyone in the socal area. sorry ;)

Oregon area. Also totally screwed because of my GPA and lack of big EC’s, but here’s hoping anyways.

@all

GOOD LUCK!

@BigKev
I’m thinking of doing the same too xD

Here’s to hoping that I’m the only person from Wisconsin that decides to apply REA lol. Maybe then I’ll be a shoe-in ;)

I’m applying from Dallas. :slight_smile: African-American, 3.7 GPA 2100 SAT 34 ACT…
My application isn’t done. I decided to switch from Yale to Stanford last minute. I love my Why Stanford essay. Wondering if my common app essay is good enough. It probably is…but then again there’s the race factor, and my athletic supplement. I might get in. Stanford’s my first choice<3

So how much of a legup is it if I’ve had two grandparents graduate from Stanford, with one as a valedictorian and going back for his MBA? I’ve heard everything from no help to shoe-in online.
