*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Update: 6 days until SAT scores are released, and 23 until Stanford decisions are released. I’m crossing my fingers and keeping each and every one of you guys (the ones who I like) in mind :)

I’m in Anaheim. My house isn’t far from Disneyland, so at a certain point at night I start hearing fireworks. :D

@courtney I’m hoping for everyone too!

If you guys get in are you definitely going?

My dad officially says I’m not allowed to attend, he wants me to stay on the east coast and go to Harvard or Princeton (yes, he actually thinks I can get in, he’s really naive)

but otherwise I’m def going to Stanford if I get in!

@fledgling my cousins live in Yorba Linda

Stanford is my first choice, and I will most definitely go there if I am accepted. My parents aren’t really involved in this whole college process, which has its benefits (mostly being they can’t tell me where I can and cannot apply/attend)

Oh cool. I used to drive by Disneyland as a kid every so often and would see the fireworks at night. At the time when I lived there, I was actually only a few blocks from the OC Fairgrounds, so I would always see/hear the County Fair going on in the distance during the summer.

I haven’t moved since I was really little, so I’ve grown up in a fairly dense suburban sprawl area. DC has some pretty severe height restrictions (it’s not actually ‘nothing taller than the Washington Monument,’ but it can be significantly shorter) so it hasn’t got as large of a population as it otherwise might, and a lot of the growth sort of oozed out onto the surrounding land.

Unfortunately for me, I go to the best (public) high school in a county system known for bad schools. It hasn’t been terrible, but it’s certainly a sinking ship, and I’ll be glad to get out when I will.

@Courtney: XDDD
But, well, me too. :P

Edit: My parents wouldn’t be willing to pay this much (slash let me take on loans for this much) for most other schools, but for Stanford, they’ll admit it’s worth it. So if I get in, I’m definitely going.

I see what you guys mean. Stanford is definitely my first choice. Meaning that if I were to get in, I’d definitely be enrolling ASAP. It’s FinAid actually makes it the most affordable school for me in a way because my family falls under the school’s special program. My parents don’t have a leash on me. I was surprised when they actually began saying that if I can get in, they’d want me to go. They’re in love with the school as much as I am. Haha, I can imagine enrolling within the first week of hearing that I’ve been admitted. crosses fingers

On another note… Sorry guys about earlier. I’ve been sick the last week and I guess I wasn’t thinking very clearly when I wrote those posts. :\ From what I know, both from lurking for a while and also as a result of conversing with you the past hour, you’re all pretty chill. I sincerely hope you didn’t take offense, but since it seems you did, I apologize.

I hope we all can get in. Trouble is, I saw a few good people from last year’s REA group get rejected. It really is a crapshoot. But I’m pretty sure that in the next few weeks that you are all waiting for your results, I’ll get to know you and hopefully we’ll all be able to meet up at admit weekend. Or something. :P

Do you guys have any specific hobbies? I haven’t been working at mine the last few months because I’ve been really stressed out. However, if I can overcome some of the obstacles that I’m dealing with right now, then I’ll be programming again. I do iPhone OS programming and I’ve been trying to get into desktop OS (basically Mac OS X). As stressful as programming is for a hobby, it would definitely get my mind off of things…

@ minniemouse: What a coincidence; I was just in Yorba Linda a couple days ago to buy a sweatshirt! :p

@ Sleeet: Looks like we have more in common than we think ;)

Apology: accepted! But don’t try any of that crap again… I live in Springfield, Missouri. It is technically a pretty big city, but certainly feels like a small town. I’m fortunate enough to go to an IB school here, so I feel that I’m getting a top-notch education.
And hobbies as in things that we do that aren’t extra curriculars? I enjoy writing/blogging, shopping (does that count as a hobby?), and babysitting.

@fledgling: Haha. You mean because of moving around? Or also the other stuff I mentioned? :P

@courtneyenpointe: Don’t worry about me trying anything. I try not to insult people and am successful a majority of the time. Writing/blogging? What kind of writing? I forgot to mention that. I write a decent amount of prose myself. Or as a friend calls it, free-verse poetry. It’s a mix I guess as I don’t have any type of rhythm or beat. Usually it’s a descriptive writing I guess.

Also, I was just wondering courtneyenpointe. How’d you get your username? “En Pointe” is obviously French. Are you French? Or did you get that from taking French? Where’d you guys all get your names?

I’m using Sleeet because a summer camp that I was a leader at requires the staff to create fictitious names. At the camp, I call myself Iceman. However, lately I’ve thought of how much more smooth Sleeet sounds. IDK, kind of random haha. :D

I was referring to the fact that we were discussing moving just a few posts ago. :stuck_out_tongue: And as for how I got my username, it’s basically derived from the title of my favorite book in fifth grade – “The Fledgling” by Jane Langton.

Mine came from a cheesy email name I made up in about 30 seconds when I needed a gmail in freshman year; which evolved into a shorter name I was using on LJ creative communities; which I lopped off the first half of, then added a bit to make it sound a little sleeker.

^^ … I REMEMBER THAT BOOK! 8D

You read “The Fledgling” as well?!

If it’s the book I’m thinking of, then yes :D

Edit: YES. Yes, I did 8DDD

“en pointe” is the way to refer to a dancer who has achieved a level high enough to begin dancing in toe shoes, or pointe shoes. It is French, as much of ballet is. A dancer who is “en pointe” does not mean a dancer who, at the moment, is dancing on pointe, but to a dancer who has reached that level of ballet. Ballet is one of my great loves, though I’ve had to abandon it this year :frowning: Great question though, I’ve always wondered that about people.

And writing/blogging wise, I write about whatever I want. It’s just a cathartic way for me to reflect. I’ve actually really enjoyed the college essay writing process, because it’s right up my alley :)

Alright, that settles it. Out of everybody on this thread, I’m most similar to wulfran. :stuck_out_tongue: (Remember that time in the pledge thread where we both thought of the EXACT same NYT article? That was pretty crazy haha.)

That was awesome. BRAIN TWINS.

Haha fledgling, I have to agree with you guys there! I’ve noticed you two are very similar!

wow… I was gone for like… 3 hours and 6 pages already :D

Yeah, this thread is moving pretty fast. :D

I got dibs on post #1600!
